Secret Santa 2013

Many weeks ago, whilst browsing Twitter, I was made aware of a Blogger's Secret Santa that was being hosted by Jess from Dungarees and Donuts and Char from Charlotte Writes , and I thought it would be a lovely idea to take part! I got in touch and was then emailed a list of questions so they could match me up with someone!

The blogger that was matched with me was Bonnie from Bonnies Beauty Blog !

So let's see what I received!

I was literally so AMAZED with the lovely gifts that Bonnie had sent me! She had included some of her favourite products, which a lot of them are ones I had been wanting to try for ages and never got round to purchasing!

Bonnie also wrote me the most lovely letter, explaining about each product and why she likes it, which mad the whole gifts more personal and explained she wanted to design a pamper evening type box!

The items I received are as follows...
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish
I've wanted to try this out for so long, it's ridiculous! As a product raved about by so many bloggers, I was over the moon when I saw a cute little miniature of this, which I cant wait to try out!

Good Things Five Minute Face Mask
I love a good face mask, and I've never tried this one before! It smells absolutely delicious!

2 x Herbal Essences Shampoo and Conditioner /2 x Naked Rescue Repairing Hair Treatment
As a hair care lover, I was delighted to receive some hair care products in my box! I have quite long, thick hair, so my hair is always in need of some good treatments! The harsh winter cold air doesn't do my hair any favours, so these will be going down a treat with my hair!

Cute Christmas Tree Decoration
Lastly, isn't this just the CUTEST thing ever! This will definitely be going on my tree this year!

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Bonnie for putting together this absolutely amazing Secret Santa gift, as well as the letter! I love everything that you have included and cant wait to test them all out!

Have you taken part in a Secret Santa this year? What gifts have you received or given?

Guest Post - Get a Glow Without Spending Dough

Hello!  Let me take a minute to introduce myself.
I’m Danniella and I’m from Famous in Japan.  I am taking over Laura’s blog for today with a guest post I hope some of you will like!
*crosses fingers*

Today I am talking about products that you can use to perk up your complexion, without depressing your bank account.  Let’s get started!

First up it’s the forever sold out MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter.  I don’t think that even MUA were prepared for the immense popularity of this product – and for good reason!  Despite being a mere £3, it’s one of my favourite highlighters.  It really does give a noticeable effect.  It’s very light on the skin and can easily be built up, should you need it.  Like I said, it’s sold out more often than not in-store, but at the time of writing you can get it online through MUA’s website.
We’ve all heard of Benefit High Beam, right?  I have tried a few minis of it but I can’t say I would buy it full size at it’s RRP – yowza, dat stuff cray..zily expensive.   During one stroll at lunch time I wandered into my local Bodycare and came out with Technic’s dupe – High Lights (geddit?)  It’s a lot thicker than High Beam and can feel heavy if you layer a lot on.  When it comes to liquid highlighters like these, I personally like to mix some with my base product to give me an all over effect.
Finally, it’s the Bourjois Java Rice Powder.  I saw this on so many blogs and in the end I gave into temptation and I nabbed it during my next visit to Boots.   This is probably the most subtle of the three, but again it’s light, buildable and it actually has quite a pleasant smell.  I will however warn you that the packaging inside is one of those twist mechanisms, similar to ones of salt shakers, so do be careful when unscrewing or it will end up everywhere!

Here are the mandatory swatches of each in action.  I would say my favourite out of the three, and the cheapest, is the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter.
Which is your favourite?
A big thank you to Laura for letting me guest post on her blog, and I hope you all enjoyed this post!

Empties #1

Just a quick post sharing with you my current beauty, bath and body empty products as well as mini reviews on each product! This is my first empties post, so please leave a comment if you've liked this post and would like to see more.

Dove Go Fresh 48hr Deodorant in Pomegranate and Lemon Verbena Scent
This is a pretty basic essential, but I previously picked this up as it was on a special offer. The scent was really lovely and fresh, I wouldn't agree with the 48 hr claim, but it did last all day. There is only one negative point, which is that it does leave white marks if not used precisely.
Would I repurchase? Probably not. I like to chop and change when using deodorants as there are some lovely scents out there.

I absolutely love Aussie shampoos, they leave my hair looking hydrated, healthy and shiny as well as feeling smooth and silky. I love the gorgeous smell that this shampoo has, and it has really made an impact on my hair's overall condition. Aussie haircare is my favourite and most likely go to product that I'm probably sure I will always use.
Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely. I love all the Aussie shampoo's and sometimes find myself choosing a different one each time I need to repurchase.

Superdrug Mud Therapy Raspberry Exfoliating Mud Mask
This is a fairly new product that I have been using for around 2 months, and so far I absolutely love it. It's a lovely thick mask that contains raspberry seeds and apricot kernels which removes dead skin and gently exfoliates. After the first few uses, this has definitely helped to improve the condition of my skin, leaving it feeling soft and refreshed. It also has a lovely delicate smell and leaves a visible brightening affect upon the skin. A must have product if your skin is looking a bit dull and tired!
Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely. I have also purchased this and another deep cleansing mud mask from the range.

I Love... Raspberry and Blackberry Shower Smoothie
I've had a bit of a love hate relationship with this product for a number of reasons. The scent of freshly squeezed raspberries, and succulent blackberries which is lovely, but slightly overpowering which does keep me clear from this. However, it buffs onto the skin nicely, moisturises and helps to keep skin soft and smooth.
Would I repurchase? Maybe not, I have bought the Coconut and Cream version which I prefer.

L'oreal Skin Perfection 3-1 Purifying Micellar Solution
With the whole hype going around of micellar waters, I've really been loving using this one from L'oreal. It removes all types of make up well as well as helps to tones skin afterwards, leaving it feeling fresh and cleansed. This solution is extremely gentle and non-irritating on the skin and it's cheap, what's not to love?
Would I repurchase? Yes, its been a really good product to use, mainly through have the 3-1 quality, saving you time and money.

This is the first product I have used from the "Naturally Radiant" range available from Superdrug, and I have been pleasantly pleased with the results. This face mask leaves my skin smooth and silky to the touch, helps to brighten my complexion and generally improve my skins condition.
Would I repurchase? Yes, its a lovely face mask, with a reasonable price and does last for quite a few uses.

What current empties do you have? Have you used any of the products featured in my blog post? Would you be interested in trying any of these?

Guest Post - Winter Nail Polishes

Hiya!
I am a 23 year old London based Beauty Blogger with a soft spot for shopping, cats and chocolate. These three elements literally rule my life. Oh how my debit card loves me. I give it a lot of love. I run a blog 'Throw me something beautiful' which banters on and on about beauty. So if your looking for a new little corner of the internet to hobble around in, you are welcome to mine! Here's hoping I do you guys justice with my post today!
Lets get cracking...

When the cold starts to flutter into my world, the cooler colours start to stumble upon my nails.  And none of my nails go without a splash of glitter on them. Its a crime to go through December without wearing a glittery nail polish. And if your looking for a stocking filler, you have come to the right place. Here are a few of the polishes that have been floating my boat recently...

L'Oreal 'Sequin Explosion' | ... The day I stumbled across the Loreal Nail Polishes was the day I turned to goo. Their nail polishes hold a special place in my heart. Their formula's are impressive. Ridiculously so. They dry in less then a minute. Literally bone stone dry. As an incredibly impatient person, I hate waiting for my nails to dry. And these polishes DRY very quickly. I have not come across anything like it. This particular polish. It beautiful. Its definitely my winter favourite. Three coats of this lovely silver sequin glitter and my entire nail is coated. None of my other glitter nail polishes do that. Go try this one out. I promise you, you will fall in love.

H&M 'Lady Luck | ... The colour of this feels so festive, this is my favourite month to be wearing it. I love wearing this colour in the run up to Christmas. This is a very beautiful forest green with swirls of glitter. Its so rich in colour and does not streak. I say one to two coats of this and you are done. It doesn't dry as quickly as the L'Oreal nail polishes. But it does not take a century either. Yep. Its a beauty.

L'Oreal Diamond Carat | ... Another Loreal Polish has seeped into this list. I apologise. I just love them so much. This one is a stunner. Its a very gorgeous frosty glitter top coat. Its oozes this magical feel. Perfect for Christmas. It goes really nicely over any polish. But sits alone just as nicely. When I feel like a simple nail day, I do like sweeping this over my nails. I feel like I have magical fingers when I do. Its impressive.

Reverence de Bastien | ... Royal blue. Definitely a winter colour. Gaaah I love my royal blues. They just look magnificent when swept across the nails. It needs a few coats this one, but the colour outweighs the cons. It just makes me stare at them all day long. I really cannot stop lusting after the colour. This one rocks my world. Simple as pie.

If your looking for a stocking filler. Any one of these would be perfect. It adds a splash of festive cheer to the occasion. These are all beautiful. None will disappoint. Let me know what you think! Feel free to pop on over to my little pocket of the internet!

Soft Glazed Ginger Biscuits

12:30 Laura Thornberry 2 Comments

Ahhh so close to Christmas now, who's excited?!

So for today's post, it's a new addition to my blog, a food related post! Since I was young, I've always been involved with cooking in my house, whether it was helping to prepare dinner or making it myself, I've always enjoyed cooking! So I wanted to share with you all a recipe for some yummy biscuits I made earlier this week!

So let's get started!

You will need...
275g of Plain Flour
1 large table spoon of Ground Ginger
1 teaspoon of Baking Powder
3/4 of teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/4 of teaspoon Salt
125g of Butter, softened
200g of Caster Sugar
1 medium Egg
1 tablespoon of Water
4 tablespoons of Golden Syrup
2 tablespoons of Caster Sugar
Icing Sugar

Step 1 - Preheat your oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4. Sift together the flour, ginger, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt, in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2 - Add the butter into a small bowl and soften in the microwave for 20/30 seconds.

Step 3 - Add the egg, golden syrup and water into the dry ingredients.

Step 4 - Mix together and add the softened butter to the mixture.

Step 5 - Combine all the ingredients until you get a solid mixture. If it is a little too wet, just add some extra plain flour.

Step 6 - Roll the biscuit mixture into small balls, roll in some caster sugar, and place on a lined baking tray.

Step 7 - Place into the oven and cook for 10 - 12 minutes.

Step 8 - Whilst your biscuits are cooking, combine some Icing Sugar and Water into a paste for the glaze.

Step 9 - After the biscuits are cooked, transfer them to a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.

Step 10 - Complete the biscuits by drizzling over the iced glaze and enjoy with a lovely cup of tea!

If you cant finish all these tasty biscuits in one sitting, place them in a biscuit tin or tupperware box, and keep tightly seeled to keep fresh!

Have you done any baking over the festive season? Would my recipe be something you might try out? What are your favourite biscuits to bake?

Secret Santa 2013

Many weeks ago, whilst browsing Twitter, I was made aware of a Blogger's Secret Santa that was being hosted by Jess from Dungarees and Donuts and Char from Charlotte Writes , and I thought it would be a lovely idea to take part! I got in touch and was then emailed a list of questions so they could match me up with someone!

The blogger I was matched with was Kene from http://nailartiste.blogspot.co.uk/ , which is a blog that I hadn't discovered previous to taking part in this, but since then I have been an avid reader! It's mainly beauty related but then there's a few lifestyle and food related posts.

From the questions she had answered for this, I found out that her 3 likes: The colour purple, Nail polish, Reading and 3 dislikes: Raisins, Banana,Winter, which helped me to find some gifts that would be perfect for this Secret Santa!

So let's see what I put together!
