GUEST POST | Did you know that 3.2 million people started blogging in the US in 2020? Now, more than ever, blogging has become a highly competitive industry. As a full-time blogger, I’ve made it my goal to share all my tips and tricks on how to make money as a beginner. So, if you’re starting your blogging journey or looking for ways to boost your income, this is a post for you!

There are so many routes you can make money as a blogger currently. It’s okay to create a blog with the intention of making money, you just need to consider that you might not make money from day 1. So let’s get started with the 5 things you need to have a money-making blog.

BLOGGING LAPTOP

An Understanding Of SEO
SEO or search engine optimisation is something you need to understand if you want to make money as a blogger. Having SEO friendly posts will help you rank higher on google (potentially even on the first page) and will bring you lots of traffic. The perk of having SEO friendly posts is that people will actively searching for the content you’re creating and can help you make more affiliate or product sales. If you want to understand more about SEO head over to The 5 Most Popular Google Advanced Search Operators

Your Own Domain
Unfortunately, many brands won’t work with you if you don’t own your domain, this is because if you don’t own your domain, you don’t have a domain authority score. Buying a domain does cost a little bit of money, but it will help you make money. It looks more professional and it gives you the option to pick a website name you love!

A Mailing List
In 2021, having a mailing list is so important. The money really is in the list. You can set up a mailing list for your blog through multiple sites but I personally use ConvertKit for its automation feature. Which allows me to schedule emails in advance for any day at any hour. There are many ways to make money with your mailing list, this could be through sharing affiliate links, product links or sponsored emails. A Well-Designed Blog
Now, this might be a silly one but you really do need to have a well-designed blog and header. You’re going to want to have a noticeable ‘work with me page’ so that PRs are able to easily find the relevant details to work with you. You might even want to have a page dedicated to your media kit. The easier your blog is to navigate, the better. I’ve always heard many PRs say they will simply go to another blog if they can’t find your details to work with you. PRs won’t spend hours looking for the relevant details, you need to have it clearly displayed.

Affiliate Marketing Knowledge
Affiliate marketing is so important to learn as a blogger. It’s a tool that can help you make lots of money over time. Affiliate marketing is something any blog niche can learn and be successful with. It’s important to remember not to fill your blog with affiliate links, you need to have content that is of value you to reader as well. You shouldn’t promote products or services you don’t’ personally use. You don’t want to lose your user’s trust.

The affiliate marketing process is pretty easy and often looks like this:
· Find products you want to promote
· Sign up to their affiliate marketing program to get a unique link and banners to use
· You add the links and/or banners in your blog
· When someone clicks on the links, they are redirected to the website of the provider
· When they make a purchase, you get the agreed commission/ money!
