AD| When purchasing jewellery for gifting purposes, it can be extremely hard to find something suitable for the right price. Ideally you want to pay a good price for the perfect piece, and that you know is worth the price tag and is made to last. Many jewellers these days are mass producing the same pieces, making them widely available to everyone, but have you ever considered purchasing something slightly older, timeless and antique? Antique jewellery can be just as statement and stunning as newer made jewellery pieces, and can really be worth the investment. For a piece of jewellery to be considered antique it has to be 100 years’ or more old, this really gives the item some character and allows you to see the detail and quality from the time it was produced.

Whether you're one the lookout for rings, necklaces, earrings or bracelets, here are a few reasons why antique jewellery would make the perfect gift for anyone, and why you should consider it over new jewellery pieces.

antique jewellery

Antique jewellery items have been made to a high quality and finish, as they are almost always hand-made or hand-finished with such incredible details. These pieces would have been produced by experienced craft men, allowing these jewellery pieces to be the best of the best. These jewellery pieces are specially designed often creating intricate and unique designs on a bespoke basis, rather than for the mass market.

Items can be a good investment if purchased from a reputable and well established jewellers, such as carusjewellery.com. You'll be under the impression that these fantastic jewellery pieces have been well looked after and kept in pristine condition. It's also worth mentioning that purchasing antique jewellery has a huge impact on the environment, as this way of sourcing pieces is much more sustainable and ethical. Investing in antique jewellery pieces is a great way to minimise wastefulness and be more environmentally friendly, and is one of the easiest ways of conserving precious resources. You'll also be supporting smaller, local businesses instead of mass corporations, which can be very rewarding to know.

One of the main advantages of buying antique jewellery is that you are almost certain not to find someone else wearing the exact same piece. Antique items are more unique and not mass made, making them extraordinary timeless pieces that can really make a statement in any jewellery collection. Many antique pieces were often handmade so even similar pieces are slightly different and you can almost guarantee your piece will be one of a kind.

antique jewellery

When choosing antique jewellery items, you can really search for the perfect piece, specially personalised for the person receiving the gift. For example, you could purchase a piece that reflects the person's birthstone, or a piece is made reflecting a certain style that they like. For me, my birthstone is diamond, so this ring would be perfect. Researching into buying the perfect antique piece of jewellery can be really exciting, and can really make the gift more sentimental, more special and more thoughtful.

Overall, researching and hunting down the perfect antique pieces of jewellery maybe tiresome work, and may take some time to find the exact piece you're looking for, but it is definitely worth it in the long run. Not only do you have a memorable piece of history, but you will also have such a unique product that will really make a statement in your jewellery collection. You'll be able to wear your timeless piece of jewellery year after year and it definitely wont go out of fashion any time soon!

Would you consider purchasing antique jewellery?

AD - GIFTED | When it comes to jewellery, I keep my collection pretty basic as it's not something I tend to wear on an everyday basis. When I do incorporate jewellery into an outfit, I tend to wear pretty small and definitely more subtle pieces, as I find these much more comfortable to wear. When it comes to wearing minimalist jewellery, you don't want to get too fussy.

Top tips when picking dainty jewellery pieces

- Pick simple, clean pieces. This allows you to make a statement with your jewellery choices whilst still being minimal. Think of it in terms of the saying "less is more".

- Go bold with geometric design pieces. If you want to add some interest to your jewellery collection, incorporating chains with pendants might be something to go for. They help being some elegance to your outfit, whilst being super simplistic and easy to wear.

- Stack your statement pieces. This styling technique can really take your basic outfit from 0 to 100 with minimal effort. Layering up 2 or 3 necklaces together is an easy way to make your jewellery stand out, whilst not being to loud and 'in your face'.

- Avoid mixing metals with necklaces. This is something I tend to stick to. When it comes to jewellery, I usually stick to gold as this is my preferred metal. I find by sticking to one metal for necklaces helps to pull the look together and makes it more sophisticated and classic.

Jewel Editions Necklace

A recent addition to my collection has been from Jewel Editions; an everyday jewellery company that combines quality materials, contemporary designs, and affordable prices.
I decided to add the Gold Moon Necklace* into my collection as I thought it was the perfect addition to my minimal jewellery collection.

This delicate gold necklace is a subtle and classic piece that can help add that hint of sparkle to any outfit. I've been wearing the necklace alone for a more simple, dainty look, or sometimes teaming it up with something a little more chunky for a more layered look. I find that when I mix different necklaces, it helps to create more of a statement piece that can really bring a more casual outfit to life.

Jewel Editions Gold Moon Necklace

"Representing changing seasons, the ebb and flow of the tide and a symbol of life in many faiths."

Why necklaces are the perfect outfit accessory

-  They add interest to your outfit. Incorporating necklaces into your daily outfits can help add interest and sometimes be a conversation starter. With the right size and style, they can intrigue others to ask questions.

- To dress up a more casual look. Adding statement pieces to casual outfits is the easiest way to take your look from day to night. A t-shirt and jeans might be a simple everyday outfit, but combine it with a statement necklace and some heels, and it's instantly more dressy.

- They draw eyes up to your face. Having a focal point near your face will draw attention to it, and make other parts of your body/outfit less noticeable.

AD - GIFTED | Looking for something more statement or looking to choose something more cute and dainty?

When it comes to rings, everyone has a different tastes. Gold or silver? Chunky or dainty pieces? So much variety to choose from! Rings are an easy and perfect way to help accessorise your outfit and really elevate your overall look. Whether you opt for a statement piece or get stacking your rings up, they can change the whole vibe of the outfit and add that extra special touch.

styling rings
Consider Your Choice of Metal
When it comes to jewellery, you may have preferences to which type of metal you like to accessorise with. Gold? Silver? Rose Gold? If you're one of these people who just like to style with one colour of rings, this can help you coordinate your look and give off more of a polished finish. However, mixing metals is a great way to change up your look and make more of a statement. For rings, mixing metals could be perfect for those who like to stack and layer jewellery, as this can help create a more statement and more noticeable accessory. It's important to make sure you find the right balance between your mixed metals, to make sure you look isn't too over the top and complicated.

Make Sure You Pick The Correct Size
When choosing your rings, it's always a good idea to get an exact ring measurement before purchasing, to ensure it is the correct size for you. When wearing your rings, they should fit comfortably and snug around your finger without leaving any marks, indents or bulges.

Have A Statement Piece
Statement pieces are usually big and bold - definitely pieces that gets attention and you'll get questions about. Some people may wear statement rings for fashion reasons, whilst others wear them for something more personal - it could be a symbol of your religion, your passions, your creativeness or even your family history.

Consider Stacking or Layering Your Rings
By stacking up or layering your rings together, this is one simple way to make a statement with your jewellery. More dainty and delicate style rings are perfect for stacking as they aren't too chunky or bulky on the fingers. When you choose to begin layering or stacking your rings, this will draw attention to your hands, as well as helping to accessorise and complete your outfit. Just remember, less is more - you don't want to over stack your rings or wear too many.

I haven't seen many people that actually review there jewellery purchases, which is a shame, as there is so much you can write about them. This is something that I am going to start doing with pieces that I really love, and hopefully you will enjoy reading about my finds, and maybe purchase them for yourself!
Ebay Black and White Triangle Necklace
Ebay Black and White Triangle Necklace
After browsing numerous Ebay stores, and a number of different necklaces later, I purchased this gorgeous necklace from Ebay at the beginning of March. At a tiny price of only £1.59, I thought this was such a bargain for the design and quality of the item I received, and it is very lightweight that is also a huge plus! I currently love all jewellery that focus on geometric shapes and detailed designs, which you may have noticed from my past blogs, with the jewellery that I have purchased. I feel they give off quite a simple statement, but look absolutely stunning when combined with a killer outfit!
Ebay Black and White Triangle Necklace
This necklace is very monochrome-esque, with its black and white pattern, which is something so versatile and timeless, you can wear with any outfit! I also thought the design on the golden beading was so lovely and intricate, it just adds such depth and elegance to such a modern piece of jewellery!

The only slight issue with buying such jewellery on Ebay is that the majority of it is shipped from Asia, which will take a couple of weeks by post, however if you're willing to wait, then I would definitely recommend you checking out Ebay for jewellery as there is a vast range of stunning pieces at very affordable prices!

Have you purchased any jewellery from Ebay before? Would you be interested in buying now after reading my post? Do you like the item I have purchased?

Hey guys! Today's post is going to be something slightly different in which I want to share with you something that I purchased on Ebay to help store my jewellery. I purchased this 3 Drawer Mini Storage Unit to help me organise my rings and bracelets, as keeping them in a makeup bag wasn't really neat and everything was just all tangled up!
Ebay Jewellery Drawer Storage Unit
The storage unit measures: 15cm x 15cm x 13cm (Height x Depth x Width), so I thought it would be the perfect size to sit upon my desk. It only cost £3.95 with free P&P, which I thought was such a bargain!

AD - GIFTED | When it comes to jewellery, for me, less is more. I'm not really into huge chunky necklaces and chains. I would always opt for something small and dainty, as I feel they are more versatile and really help pull an outfit together. The team over at Statement Made Jewellery got in touch with me and wanted to send something over as a surprise, and to see what I thought of the gift I received.

Statement Made Jewellery

I was kindly gifted the simple, yet stunning Tree of Life Pendant* in silver. This gorgeous necklace was also personalised with my birthstone, ( I was born in April, so my stone is a Diamond) which is just such a great little touch. They also offer an initial pendant, altogether making a beautiful and custom personalised necklace for yourself or for a gift. The necklace was professionally presented in gorgeous logo printed pouch, along with a certificate of authenticity, which really makes it a luxurious and special surprise.

Statement Made Jewellery

In terms of styling, a simple necklace can really add that extra something to your outfit and add another focus point to your look. For me, this could be worn with either a smart or quite casual outfit. I'd pair this necklace with a high neck jumper, simple plain tee or a cami top.

MEASUREMENTS:  Chain: trace chain 18"
Pendant: Height: 1.5cm Width: 1.5cm

RRP £19.95

Hey everyone! Another short and sweet jewellery review type thing here, and again its a piece that I bought of Ebay! At the moment, I'm quite into quite bold and quirky statement jewellery, specifically necklaces, and this gorgeous necklace really caught my eye! It was slightly more pricey than the other necklaces I have featured from Ebay, costing me £3.99 with free p&p, however I fell in love with this and ordered it straight away!
Ebay Gold Leopard Statement Necklace
I absolutely love this necklace that features a gorgeous leopard in a vintage bronzed/gold colour with black. Its very lightweight and I think it is such a stand out piece that you can wear mainly formally, however with some more casual outfits, it will look just as good!
Ebay Gold Leopard Statement Necklace
The only downside about this necklace, similar to the others I featured, is that being posted from Asia, they do take some time to be delivered, around 2-3 weeks, however I think it is definitely worth the wait! I feel that on Ebay, you can get a lot of very gorgeous and unique pieces, that not many other people have which I love!

Have you bought any jewellery off Ebay recently? Would you buy this necklace?

Hello everyone! I've got another jewellery review for you, after getting some very nice comments from my previous post, which you seem to like this new style post! This review is about another necklace that I purchased from Ebay. This specific Ebay store offers quite a range of stunning necklaces, that I had quite a long time looking at before I chose this necklace.
Ebay Multi Spike Statement Necklace
Like I said before, the store these came from offer a number of different necklaces, and this specific necklace is named "N21", costing £2.29 and is a beautiful antiqued gold colour and very lightweight, which is great for something you hang around your neck for long periods of time. It is a very stunning piece of jewellery, so versatile it will look amazing with any outfit, at any time of the day. I feel its quite a unique necklace that you can style both casually and formally and it wont look out of place.
Ebay Multi Spike Statement Necklace
The small plate of the necklace features a very intricate design, that just adds such a simple but effective and stunning detail to the necklace, that really just makes a statement. The different lengths of the spikes also makes this necklace quite eye catching and aesthetically pleasing, adding a slight urban yet grunge edge, which is something that always seems to be on trend and a style that is timeless.

Have you purchased any jewellery from Ebay before? Would you be interested in buying now after reading my post? Do you like the item I have purchased?

AD| When it comes to gemstones, aquamarines are the undisputed champions of that pale blue hue that we know and love. Aquamarine engagement rings bring something a little different to the table compared to the usual diamond ring. Their colour is subtle enough that it’s still obvious from a distance that you’re engaged, and not wearing any old ring, but it’s also bold enough that people can’t help but be amazed by its beauty – rightly so! But which are the top aquamarine engagement ring styles? Let’s find out!

Top Aquamarine Engagement Ring Styles

Classic - Of course, you can’t talk about engagement ring styles without discussing the all-time classic: the solitaire. A single stone can represent so much when it becomes your engagement ring – and it doesn’t have to be a diamond to do the trick! Aquamarine solitaires are a real thing of beauty. Not only are they a colour so pure and classic, but they also have a clearness to them that makes them suit everything.

For the type of frequent wearing an engagement ring expects, aquamarines are up to the task of matching every piece in your wardrobe! They’re also very versatile in other areas; whether you’re warm-toned or cool-toned, aquamarines will match you well. Their unique shade means they look good with white gold or yellow gold, so there’s definitely a solitaire out there for you!

engagement rings

Art Deco Dream - Art Deco is a style that never seems to fade away, perpetually coming back to be the star of the show in the best way. Think geometric shapes, bold structure, very architectural. If this matches your kind of style, then an Art Deco aquamarine engagement ring is the ring for you. Cuts like emerald cut, princess cut, cushion cut, and the stunning marquise cut are commonplace in Art Deco jewellery.

Aquamarines fit the Art Deco style like they were made for it. Their cool colouring and crystal-clear internal structures play with light refraction in a way that suits the hard edges and almost tough style of this kind of jewellery. Engagement rings in this style are best suited to those who are looking to make a powerful statement with their jewellery!

Top Aquamarine Engagement Ring Styles

Contemporary Cool - One of the most popular engagement ring styles of the moment is the halo ring. One central stone, with a gorgeous band, or ‘halo’, of smaller gemstones encircling it – truly stunning stuff! Diamond halo rings are a sparkling mass that’s a sight for sore eyes, it’s true, but a corker central aquamarine makes a world of difference to the overall appearance of the ring.

Getting engaged is a worthy enough time to get something special, and the aquamarine halo rings on the market are blinding! There’s also the option to get the inverted version: a central diamond surrounded by a halo of aquamarines. This allows the diamond the reign supreme if you’re into that, and still gets a pop of colour that’s to die for, as well as actually accentuating the central diamond.

Trios and Twists - A trilogy ring, for anyone not in the know, is a ring with three stones on it – surprise surprise. Trilogy rings have risen in popularity as an engagement ring choice in recent years, embodying both a timeless and fashion-forward aesthetic. Typically, they are of course three diamonds all in a row, sometimes with the central stone being larger than the stones at either side.

It doesn’t have to be this way, however, as coloured gemstones are taking centre-stage more and more. Aquamarines are particularly suited to this style because of their stunning clarity. An aquamarine with accenting diamonds glitters unlike anything else! They’re also a popular choice for this style because of the cost-effectiveness of the gemstone. A trilogy ring starring an aquamarine will cost a pretty penny but it’s nothing compared to an all-diamond affair!

Getting engaged is a special thing, and it deserves a special ring. That rhyme was nice, but aquamarine engagement rings are nicer by far. If you’re thinking about getting engaged, consider something a little different from the usual and experiment with aquamarines. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but aquamarines are coming for the crown!

What is your favourite engagement ring style?

AD| It’s very easy to get stuck in a style rut. You love your favourite jeans, you adore that old t-shirt and blouse, and as for that eyeshadow palette? Well, you’ve been using it for years! Before you know it, you realise that your look hasn’t altered for a decade or so – which means it’s definitely time for a change. You don’t have to do a dramatic image overhaul. Sometimes, just incorporating a hint of the unexpected into your style can make a big difference. Here are some tips to help you.

STYLING TIPS

Accessorise with a scarf
The humble scarf has the ability to transform an outfit. Tie it around your neck to make your favourite blouse look instantly retro-cool. Wrap it around your head as a great alternative to a hat. They’re even good for tying around your wrist as a fabric bracelet. Try layering two to create added interest.

Get your lash on
Not a fan of mascara? Try using some false eyelashes instead. For a sixties vibe, go for thick, black lashes; or if you’d prefer a more subtle look, choose dark brown, thinner lashes. A good pair of false eyelashes completely open up the eyes, creating much more drama and sex-appeal.

Change your jewellery
Do you normally stick with delicate silver jewellery? If so, go for something bold and ethnic-inspired; such as a leather choker or fabric pendant. Alternatively, if you normally wear big statement pieces, try something petite and pretty for a change, or even some antique jewellery!

Get textural with your nails
Nail polish turns your hands into instant focal points. Rather than settling for just a pop of colour, choose some nail polish with texture, such as a glittery or crackle finish. If you’re feeling artistic, stick some cute nail stickers on too.

Go for a different cut (of jeans)
If you live in your skinny jeans, now might be the time to switch them up for something different. Try a slouchy boyfriend cut or a 70s flare. They’re ultra on-trend and breathe instant life into your wardrobe. You can also experiment with colour too – for example, if you usually stick to pale denim, go for navy blue or black.

Change your fragrance
If you’ve been wearing the same scent for years, now is the time to try a new one. Choose something that’s totally different to your usual fragrance. If you normally go for a floral scent, try out something fruity or musky. Masculine fragrances are also ideal – not to mention distinctive. Sauvage perfume is a great example.

Invest in new lip colour
Okay, so beige or nude lipstick feels nice and safe, and it’s suitable for work – hooray! But now might be the time to choose a few others shades too. A deep ruby red is perfect for going out in the evening, or if you want to get in a springtime mood, choose a burnt orange or pillar-box red.

Get experimental! You can have a lot of fun playing around with your look – and often, you’ll find long-forgotten clothing or cosmetics in your wardrobe, just waiting to be rediscovered. Get experimental and enjoy.

AD| Emerald engagement rings are fast becoming a popular choice for many. They are still in a stage of uniqueness where they are not common, making any emerald engagement ring an inimitable choice that’s sure to stand out among the crowds. The question arises time and again, however, of ‘are emeralds ok for an engagement ring’?

When people ask this, they’re typically talking about whether or not emeralds are suitable for the general rough and tumble that an engagement ring can expect to face, particularly if it’s being worn every day. Diamonds are not only the typical stone of choice for engagement rings entirely due to their beauty and unmatchable sparkle – they are also incredibly hardwearing. The strongest natural material known to exist; the durability of diamonds is peerless.

So, are emeralds equally as up to the task?

emerald engagement rings

The Mohs Scale
The Mohs scale of hardness puts a variety of minerals on a ten-point scale to determine which mineral is hardest and which is softest. Created in 1812, the Mohs scale has faced criticism for its relative lack of precision, but it is still used by geologists and gemmologists alike. The basis of the scale is to use minerals to attempt to mark other minerals. The mineral that leaves a mark is stronger than the one that is marked, and so it moves up the scale. Diamonds sit pretty at the 10-point spot, being the hardest mineral in the world.

Emeralds sit between a 7.5 and an 8 on the Mohs scale, putting them lower than gemstones like topaz and sapphires, and higher than gemstones like opals and peridots. Most gemstones sit between the 5-point and 10-point spots on the Mohs hardness scale, and emeralds sit in a fairly upper-central position for gemstones.

Emerald Hardness
What does this mean for the hardness of emeralds? Are they durable enough to make for good engagement rings? Well, they are still strong for gemstones, despite not reaching the same level of toughness as diamonds. If your engagement ring features accent emeralds, it is certainly up to par for everyday wear, provided you inspect any claws and the overall structural integrity of your ring roughly once or twice a year.

For those of you more interested in the antique emerald engagement ring styles, where the emerald is the focal point of the ring and therefore the largest – usually most central – stone, there might be slightly different rules. Large emeralds, simply by virtue of being large, open themselves up to a higher possibility of damage. If your engagement ring is an emerald statement piece of jewellery, it should probably be reserved for more formal occasions, or social occasions such as meeting up with friends, going for a shopping trip, or being on holiday. Everyday tasks such as cleaning, cooking, or any physical labour should be done with minimal jewellery.

Emerald Engagement Rings
Overall, emeralds make an excellent choice for engagement rings. Emeralds ranging between 0.5 a carat and 2.5 carats are generally suitable for being worn the same amount as diamonds of the same size. They’re generally cheaper stones, they have something unique about them due to their colour, and they come in the same range of styles as diamond engagement rings.

If you’re interested in emerald engagement rings, whether it’s due to their wide range of green shades, their overall individuality as an engagement ring, or because you’re curious about having an engagement ring that matches your or your other half’s birthstone, you could certainly do a lot worse. Emeralds are beautiful gemstones that are sure to see you right if you take care of them the way they deserve.

What do you think – are emeralds ok for an engagement ring to you?

AD - GIFTED| Many of us own a watch that is worn pretty much every day. It's definitely once piece of jewellery that will never go out of style. Many watch owners are gifted a beautiful, luxury watch on occasions such as birthdays, graduations, promotions and other special days in your life.

A watch is the perfect accessory, not only does it tell the time, but it can add so much character to an outfit, and will remind you of those special personal and sentimental memories of when you received it. A good, luxury watch that's kept in good condition and has been well looked after should last for years and years to come. Watches are built to last a lifetime, and if they are taken care of properly, you'll be able to pass your watch on to future generations of your family for years to come. Here are 5 tips on how to care for your luxury watches and keep them in the best condition over the years.

LUXURY WATCHES

Cleaning Your Watch
To ensure the longevity of your luxury watches, it is important to remember to keep your watch clean and maintained whilst on and off the wrist. There are two parts of a watch you need to keep clean: the watch face, and the strap/bracelet. Depending on how long or how often you wear your watch will determine how regularly it needs to be cleaned. From daily wear, a build up of oils, sweat and dirt can cling to your watch, so it's vital that you always refer to the manual or do your own research before using specific cleaning products on your watch. You must wait until your watch is fully dry completely before you wear it again to ensure it doesn't get damaged or begin to get rusty.

Read Your Watch Manual
If you have been gifted a brand new watch for a special occasion, or you are interested in purchasing a watch, make sure to do yourself research and familiarise yourself the brand/product you choose. By doing this, you'll be able to understand how your watch works, how to care for it, as well as you'll know what to expect from the watch you pick in advance. It might be important to know what material your watch is made from, to know if your watch is water-resistant and to know how to set the correct date or time.

Store Your Watch Properly
As much as regularly cleaning your watch is necessary, it's also extremely important to store your watch properly to keep it in its best condition. The watch’s original box is the ideal place for storage. You need to minimize their exposure to the elements, such as direct sunlight, dust, mould and high temperatures.

Avoid Unwanted Damage
Without proper care and attention, it’s only a short matter of time before your watch face or strap shows scratches. To ensure your watch remains in good condition, make sure to remove your watch during certain activities such as showering/bathing, DIY jobs and exercise. Also, avoid wearing other pieces of wrist jewellery, such as bracelets, on the same wrist, as they might scratch either the sides or the glass of your watch.

Get Repairs At A Reputable Jeweller
If you’re looking for watch repair, whether the watch face is scratched, the batteries have stopped working or your watch has any other faults, it's best in the hands of a reputable jeweller. For any damage, mechanical issues or problems, it's important that you go to the experts who have years of experience and are trained to fix all sorts of problems. This is important for those who own expensive, luxury watches, as you will want the highest quality and repair standards for your timepiece.

Avoid Contact with Chemicals
Exposing your watch or coming in contact with certain chemicals like cleaning products, soap, laundry detergents, cosmetics and perfumes can damage your watch, causing corrosion or rust. When using moisturisers, creams or perfume, allow these to dry completely on your skin before wearing your watch to avoid any contact with wet lotions or potential chemicals.

Introducing Barrington Watch Winders

"Our flagship Barrington Single Watch Winder in Shadow Black is both compact and stylish with all the practical features you would expect from a high end watch winder. "

Barrington Watch Winders

Watch winders are a super niche product in the wider world, but of course, for watch enthusiasts, they are much more popular. They’re usually intended to care for automatic watches by keeping them in perpetual movement when they’re not in use. This not only ensures that your watch will keep working and ticking away forever, but also means you don’t have to set the date or time every time you pick it up.

Barrington created a wide range of watch winders for automatic style watches, which can be operated in two ways; either by AC mains or by using two AA batteries. The watch winders also feature an ultra-quiet Japanese motor, multiple rotation settings and multiple turns per day settings from 650, 750, 850, 1000 or 1950, depending on your watch.

For me, not only are these winders a great way to store your valuable watches and keep them in a good working condition, but they can also help to minimise damage and problems whilst not on the wrist of the owner. Another great selling point is that they also come in a variety of colours, suitable for everyone's preferences, and they could even become a sleek and minimal decorative accessory in your home, or even to give as a gift to a watch lover in your life.

Have you heard of watch winders before? What other tips do you have for caring for your watches?

AD| Glasses are often thought of as a practical item rather than a fashion piece, but that’s the wrong way to look at it. Glasses are no different from any other accessory and you need to match them to the rest of your outfit. Just like any other fashion item, glasses trends change year on year and if you want your look to be relevant, you need to keep up.

When you are buying glasses, it is obviously important that you get the right lenses so you can see properly, but you also need to consider the style of the frames. Think about the colour and the material and how that fits with your overall style. Does it match your jewellery, for example? The shape is very important as well because wearing the wrong frame shape for your face will give the wrong look.

If you haven’t put much thought into your glasses before and you don’t really know what is fashionable at the moment, check out this list of glasses trends for the coming year.

Sustainable Materials

Sustainability is big in all industries right now, including fashion and beauty. There are some amazing sustainable fashion brands out there trying to create beautiful pieces made from recyclable materials, and the last few years have seen an explosion in cruelty free, vegan cosmetics. Sustainability is equally important where glasses are concerned because a lot of glasses are made from plastic, which contributes to waste in a big way.

However, there are some great companies making glasses from sustainable materials like wood, and metal has long been a favourite choice for people that want something more durable. There are also brands that make glasses from recycled plastic from the oceans, so you can get a great pair of glasses and help to reduce plastic waste at the same time. So, next time you pick a pair of glasses, think about how they are made and where the materials come from.

Bold Colour Patterns

Bold colour patterns are very popular among glasses wearers right now. Although something minimalist can work, a lot of people are choosing to go for patterned frames instead. There are some great brands like Tory Burch, creating amazing lines that combine functionality and design with amazing style. You can check out their range here and see some of the vibrant designs that are available. If you are going to go bold, make sure to think about your overall style. Balance is key, so find colour schemes and patterns that work well with your favourite outfits and your other accessories.

The Havana style is particularly popular right now, especially during the winter and autumn. These frames are characterised by warm browns and oranges and they’re perfect for anybody that likes to wear natural, earthy tones and is looking for a pair of glasses to match.

Monochromatic Glasses

If bold colours don’t suit your style, why not try another one of the latest glasses trends; monochromatic glasses. Monochromatic styles rarely go out of fashion because they’re simple and bold. A lot of people are going for matching frames and lenses, to create a monochromatic look in their eyewear as well. Lenses come in a range of colours, like yellow, sepia, blue, and black, so you can easily match them to the frames. You can still add a bit of pattern to the frames if you don’t want a completely minimalist look, or you can go plain for the simple but stylish effect.

Clear Glasses

Clear frames can make just as much of a statement as monochromatic or heavily patterned ones. Chunky, clear plastic frames are popular right now and they’re a good choice for anybody that wants a retro style but still wants something classy and elegant. This style works best when matched with simple outfits, but the beauty is, they work with almost anything. You are not tied down by the colour or pattern, so you can match them with any outfits and accessories and they will work just fine. If you don’t want your glasses to take away from the rest of your outfit, clear frames are a good choice.

Large Frames

People tend to be a bit scared of large frames when they’re buying glasses, but if you can pull them off, they look amazing. They make a real statement and wearing large glasses is a simple but effective way to change up your look and do something unexpected. Large sunglasses have long been a fashion staple that never really goes out of style, but you will get the same effect if you go big with your normal glasses too. If you are going to opt for large frames, it may be best to go for something plain. If you notice, most large sunglasses are plain black rather than having heavily patterned frames. This is because they can be overpowering if they are large and very brightly coloured. You don’t want your glasses to steal the show, but you do still want them to make a statement, so find a good balance and go for large, plain frames.

Slim Frames

Don’t worry if you don’t like the idea of wearing large frames and you want something more understated. You can still keep up with the latest trends because slim frames are still set to be very popular in the coming year. They are particularly good for people with an oval or triangular shaped face, but the style suits most people. Simple half frames or round glasses with a thin metal or wooden frame are very popular at the minute. These styles still offer the opportunity to add a burst of colour, so if you like the idea of monochromatic glasses but you don’t want anything that draws too much attention, look for a slim frame.

However, if you have a round face, it’s best to avoid round frames. They will only exacerbate your face shape and highlight the soft edges too much. It’s better to wear square frames with sharper angles to balance things out a bit. There are some great square styles with slim frames out there and these are much better suited to anybody with a round face shape.

Aviators

If you want a retro look that is still contemporary, you’re in luck because aviators are making a big comeback. They are always a popular choice for sunglasses but now they’re becoming fashionable for people that wear eyeglasses too. They’re perfect for people with a square shaped face because, even though they have a lot of length to them and they are quite bold, the rounded edges help to balance the shape of the face. They’re the perfect style for somebody that wants an everyday pair of glasses that offers something different and still makes a big statement, without being overpowering. This trend comes back around every few years, so a good pair of aviators will stand you in good stead.

Choosing glasses is more difficult than people think. Before you start looking at any frames, it’s important that you know what your face shape is so you can select the right style. You should be looking for frames that balance your face shape instead of amplifying it. Once you have a clear idea of the shape, you can then start experimenting with some of these great eyewear trends to see what works for you. Just remember to consider your outfit as a whole and pick glasses that fit with your overall style.

Follow these simple steps and your glasses become an amazing accessory rather than a functional item that you hate wearing.
