AD| Are you looking to get fitter, eat better and just lead a more healthy lifestyle? Do you find major diet changes overwhelming? What not start small and simple?

Creating a more maintainable, healthier lifestyle doesn't mean you have to make a number of drastic changes to your current routine. Instead of making many big changes all at once, it may be better to start with a few smaller ones. This way, it’s more manageable, and you're more likely to continue for a longer period of time. Not only can these changes improve your health and fitness, it can also reduce your risk of chronic diseases and illnesses. Below, I have compiled a list of 8 simple ways to make healthier lifestyle choices, and a number of them I have incorporated into my daily life.

lifestyle

1. The Perfect Bed Setup
Sleep is a vital and important aspect of everyday life, and honestly, who doesn't love to sleep? Having good quality sleep helps your body to re-energise, refresh and heal itself. The average adult needs between 7 and 9 hours sleep to be fully rested. It's also beneficial to get your body into a good sleeping routine, by going to sleep/waking up at similar times each day. The key to a good sleep is by making sure your bed is comfortable, with a supportive mattress and pillows.

Another important factor to mention is bed height. You want to be able to get in and out of bed easily, and this will help keep your bed accessible at all times. The sleep-tech brand Simba have a great article regarding this, where they discuss 'how high should my bed be', and is definitely an interesting read!

2. Keep Hydrated
Water makes up a large percentage of the body, and without enough of the stuff, dehydration can set in, as well as a dry mouth, tiredness, and headaches. Your body predominantly uses water in cells, organs, and tissues - helping to regulate body temperature and other bodily functions. It's also important to keep hydrated through physical activity and even through illness to ensure hydration levels topped up, as water can be lost through sweat, breath and getting rid of waste products from the body.

3. Stay Stress Free
Having stress that builds up over time can cause some serious issues, such as acne and high blood pressure. For those struggling with stress, taking CBD gummies - maybe those from Joy Organics are a great supplement to take, and could be a good option for stress management and sleep support, as well as to help you relax from your chaotic day. Great ways of managing stress include exercise, relaxation, meditation, and even taking a warm bubble bath can help you unwind.

4. Get A Good Breakfast
Breakfast has always been considered to be one of "the most essential meals of the day", and usually frowned upon if you skip it. By ensuring to eat a good breakfast every morning, you're allowing your body to gain energy, kick-start your metabolism, increase your alertness levels, as well as consuming essential vitamins and nutrients required for good health and wellbeing.

healthy diet

5. Get Your 5-A-Day
Fruit and vegetables are a vital part of a consuming a healthy, balanced diet and can help you stay feeling fit and healthy. It's important that you eat enough of these to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs for daily bodily functions. Incorporating plenty of fruit and vegetables in your diet can help keep your body feel fitter, healthier and happier. The benefits of consuming plenty of fruit and vegetables includes getting plenty of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. These can reduce the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

6. Avoid Harmful Pollutants
We should probably try to avoid temptation of any drugs or pollutants that could be harmful to our bodies, or at least try to reduce the amounts we consume, e.g. alcohol in moderation, cut down on tobacco etc. Doing this is good for our bodies, where there are fewer toxins circulating our systems, reducing the risk of certain diseases.

7. A Healthy, Balanced Diet
Making healthy lifestyle choices is all about balance and moderation. A balanced diet is definitely a vital part of maintaining good health, can help control your weight, increase your energy levels, and can also boost how you feel. This change in your diet and lifestyle can be something you work on over a more long-term period. You'll be able to incorporate eating a wide variety of foods into your diet, making sure you're consuming the correct amounts, and not over-eating. Make sure to include produce from all food groups including carbohydrates, fats, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, grains, and protein. Even if you're looking to lose weight through your new lifestyle changes, it's also important not to restrict yourself from what you really like - a takeaway or a glass of wine once in a while won't hurt!

8. Follow A Regular Exercise Routine
Taking part in regular exercise is probably one of the best things you can do for your overall health. Some positive benefits of exercise include managing and maintaining a healthy body weight, building muscle and reducing your risk of diseases. As well as these, exercise can also be used to help boost your mood, improve your mental health, and can even help you get a better night of sleep. A top tip for beginning your exercise routine is to pick something you enjoy and that challenges you. Exercise can be made to be fun, which will be a critical factor for how long you keep it up, helping you to continue your routine for a longer period of time, allowing you to achieve your fitness goals.

AD - GIFTED| You may be wondering... is oat milk good for you? What benefits does this non-dairy alternative to cow's milk have? Well, let's take a look!

The plant-based milk industry is growing steadily at the majority of UK supermarkets, as more and more people start to change their diet and lifestyle habits or adopt a predominantly vegetarian or vegan/plant-based diet. There's such a huge variety of types of dairy-free milk alternatives on the market, including oat, almond, coconut and soy, to name a few. One of the more popular plant-based milk options is out of the above list is oat milk - possibly due to its sustainability and lower environmental impact.

I've recently begun switching to using oat milk as a replacement to cow's milk. I haven't completely converted to using plant-based milk, but 9 times out of 10, I'm using oat milk in my tea, coffee and cereal.

Consuming oat milk is a great option for those with special dietary requirements or allergies. This includes those following a Vegan or plant-based diet, those who are lactose intolerant, soy or nut-free, those suffering with gastroenterological conditions or those just looking to opt for dairy-free products in their diet. Oat milk is essentially created from a mixture of whole grain oats and water blended together, then strained to leave the pulp mixture behind.

Oat milk can be a good source of vitamins and minerals, including calcium. Many manufacturers of oat milk products often fortify it with "B" vitamins, such as vitamin B12. As well as "B" vitamins, oat milk bought from the supermarkets are usually  enriched with iron, thiamin, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, riboflavin, zinc, fibre and copper. Oat milk is a great source of iron for those following a plat-based, vegan or vegetarian diet, who may miss out on other sources of iron which are typically found in red meats and fish.

Oat milk is typically enriched and fortified with calcium and vitamin D — both of which can benefit your bone health. Calcium is a mineral found in a variety of foods and drinks, playing an essential role in maintaining strong and healthy bones and carrying out many important bodily functions.

Compared to other types of plant-based milks, oat milk typically has a slightly more protein and fibre included. The high levels of both protein and fibre found in oat milk helps to fill you up quicker and ensures you feeling fuller for longer. Incorporating this plant-based milk into your diet can help improve your appetite control and promote weight loss for those looking to lead a healthier lifestyle. As well as this, oat milk typically contains a soluble fibre -beta-glucan, which is necessary to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Introducing Happi Free From

Happi Free From Oat Milk Drinks

I was recently gifted some products from the team at Happi Free From, to help me on my journey from transitioning from dairy milk to a plant-based version, this being oat milk. They offer a range of allergen-free oat milk chocolate that tastes great; is lower in sugar than other leading milk chocolate brands; and is sustainably sourced and packaged. The brand message Happi follow is so eco-friendly, sustainable and ethical, it's definitely helping to change the planet for the better.

The Happi oat drinks I received come in both a strawberry and chocolate flavour. These drinks are great sources of vitamins A, B6, B9, B12, C and D, which all contribute to the normal function of your body and immune system. Both flavours of the oat milk drink were so fresh and tasty, but the chocolate drink was undoubtedly my favourite. For me, this was the most versatile flavour as I was able to drink it by itself, use it in cereal or even to give my porridge that chocolate taste. Not only does it taste good, it also has so many nutritional health benefits and contains a long list of vitamins and minerals your body needs on a daily basis, what's not to love?

Happi Free From Oat Milk Chocolate

Also included in my parcel was Happi Family Bundle pack. This was a great surprise and something I couldn't wait to get stuck into! This bundle consisted of 4 bars of vegan friendly, sustainable and ethically sources chocolate bars in a variety of flavours - plain milk chocolate, cacao nibs crunch, orange and salted caramel. I was really excited about this chocolate as I haven't really tried many non-dairy varieties, but overall it did not disappoint! My favourite flavour was definitely the salted caramel!

Overall, I was extremely impressed with the Happi products I was kindly sent. It allowed me to try some new products that are suitable for my attempt at transitioning from dairy cows milk to a plant-based alternative, and left me finding some delicious non-dairy products. I also really like the branding and packaging that Happi use. So colourful, vibrant and eye-catching, it certainly draws you in and makes you want to find out more!

I am going to be sharing 5 simple tips, that you can incorporate into your everyday life, that can get you on your journey to leading a healthier and fitter lifestyle! I am no way an expert in this field, but what I have learnt in the past, is what I shall be sharing with you!

workout routine

1.Healthy Eating and Balanced Diet
One of the most important, influential and easiest ways to have good health is through having a healthy, balanced diet. Eating well and drinking plenty of water also prevents any future disease/illness and helps to remove any toxins/waste from the body, as well as maintaining a healthy body weight.

Making sure you have a balanced diet allows you to get all the nutrients your body needs to functions, and there are 5 main groups that you should focus on; Carbohydrates, Vitamins and Minerals, Fats, Fibre and Proteins. These are all essential for providing energy, growth, repair, bodily functions and keeping your cholesterol levels controlled.

Tips for a healthy, balanced diet...

- Eat lots of fruit and vegetables

- Cut down on saturated fats, salt and sugars

- Don't skip breakfast

- Eat the correct amount of calories your body needs to function

- Eat a wide range of foods to make sure you are getting all nutrients

2. Follow A Routine or Schedule
I spoke a little about this in a previous post, so I wont go heavily into detail here, but sticking to a routine/schedule is a great way to start a fitness/health plan, that you can follow and modify as you progress. By sticking to your schedule, this gives you something to stick to, be committed to and doesn't allow you to "cheat".

3. Avoid Any Distractions
Distractions - this is what would stop us from achieving our goals, reaching our targets and following our schedules.

Technology can be one of the biggest distractions, whether its your mobile phone, your laptop, your favourite TV show etc. These make us lose our concentration and will make us feel less motivated to workout, as something else you would prefer to do/watch is there. Even your friends and family can be a distraction to you, if the pop over your house without you know, invite you out for a meal/night out etc, this can put you off your routine and stop your progress.

Its always important to stay focused, stay motivated, stay determined and forget those distractions!

4. Have A Comfortable and Spacious Workout Environment
If the gym is a no-go place for you, whether it be dues to lack of confidence or just lack of funds, working out at home can be free and easy - as long as you have the environment for it. Having a large, spacious room, gives you a lot of room to workout in, where you have the space to do various exercises and activities.

5. Make It Fun!
I think its definitely important to make exercise and healthy eating fun, we don't all want to feel stressed and depressed, and just generally lazy and lethargic!

Exercise can be fun right? Maybe get a group of your friends round and do a workout or dance DVD, go running with your partner or go over the park with your family for a game of football or whatever sport you like to play, just make sure its something you like and you know you will enjoy!

Having a healthy diet doesn't always have to be unappealing or boring, in fact it can be delicious and tasty! Now having a healthy diet doesn't mean you just have to eat vegetables and fruit everyday, you can make near enough any of your favourite meals, but with healthier ingredients, that taste amazing are are better for you!

The health of our bones comes down to use having a balanced diet, and consuming enough vitamins, minerals and nutrients. The most important for bones being both calcium, and vitamin D. Calcium is an essential mineral for the development and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. It is also essential for blood clotting, wound healing, and maintaining normal blood pressure.

Yogurt is such a versatile food product, as you can enjoy it any time of the day, including for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just as a snack. Whether you serve your yogurt with fruit and granola, on tops of curries or chilli con carne, or even just eaten alone, yogurt is a great staple food to include and consume in your diet regularly.

Getting motivated is the best way to start/continue with your fitness/diet routine or just leading a better lifestyle, but finding that motivation can definitely be hard sometimes, especially if you don't have the support, knowledge or guidance that you really need.

In today's post, I'm going to be sharing with you my top 5 tips to getting motivated, and tips that I have started using myself, in order to get fit and healthy! As I said, I'm definitely no expert, but I'm hoping what I do, with motivate, inspire and help you with where you want to be/what you want to do!
motivational quote

1. Exercise with a friend/family member or your partner
We all know that exercising on your own, or improving your diet can be very hard if you don't have the support and help from others around you, but starting your fitness/diet journey with someone else can make it 10 times easier for you! Having someone you know, who are close with and feel comfortable around, is a great way to feel motivated and encouraged. It's also a way to build a closer friendship/relationship, to get to know someone better, or even just to have some fun and let your hair down, whilst getting sit and healthy!

There may be those times where you feel like you just cant do something or you're struggling with something, but having that someone there with you can give you that extra boost and guidance you need, as well as that moral support, that can spur you on to achieve your goals and aspirations!

2. Set goals and keep a fitness diary
Setting yourself goals, and by goals I mean realistic and achievable ones, whether you want to loose 5lbs in 5 weeks, or 1 stone in 2 months, dropping 1 or 2 dress sizes or even entering a running event, just make sure they are realistic and reasonable! Setting goals helps you to keep focused, motivated and determined to get to that place you want to be, whether you choose a few weeks, few months or even a year.

Keeping a fitness diary/log is a great way to record your progress and see how far you've come! It's a great way to record your weight loss, your exercise routine or even how far your running/swimming/cycling each week! You'll be able to see how you're improving and progressing, to get to the place you want to be at the end!

Setting goals and keeping a fitness diary, can also be a way or treating and rewarding yourself. By reaching your goals by certain dates/months, you can treat yourself to something as a way to feel proud and pleased of how far you've come and what you have achieved!

3. Purchase workout clothing/accessories
This might sound like a bit of an obvious one, but ACTUALLY buying your workout clothing and accessories gets you motivated to start using it and begin your fitness/diet routine. There are so many different clothing items out there, whether you want proper fitness gear or even a plain top/vest and tracksuit/leggings, there's always something for very body shape and budget, you just pick what you feel comfortable and confident in!

Important things that I feel you should really have are...
- A good, supportive pair of trainers
- A comfortable sports bra
- Comfortable clothing/swimwear
- A water bottle
- Yoga/exercise mat

I feel that these are the very basics that you need to begin getting in shape and leading a healthier and fitter lifestyle. You can pick most of these up anywhere, in your local high street, supermarkets or even online. If you're on a tighter budget, there are still places for you, check out the sales in your local shops and online! You'll be sure to find something you'll love!

4. Create a workout schedule
Creating a workout schedule or routine is a great way to begin getting fit and healthy. By sticking to your schedule, this gives you something to stick to, be committed to and doesn't allow you to "cheat". Even if you choose to go running once a week, exercise at home everyday or go to the gym twice a week, sticking to this will boost your confidence and give you that encouragement you need to stick to your routine.

I think that creating one of these is a great idea, you can build up your schedule slowly, making sure you're not doing too much to exhaust yourself, just make sure you are flexible and realistic, and when you feel the time is right, you can slowly and steadily, build up your routine gradually.

5. Feel inspired and be determined
To get motivated, feeling inspired and being determined plays a huge role in this. There are many ways to do this, and here's just a few.

- Having photographs of yourself, or areas of your body that you aren't happy with dotted around in your exercise area, is a great way for you to feel motivated and determined to improve this.

- If you're looking to lose weight, buying something you love in a small dress size, will give you that boost and determination, to be able to fit into it and look great!

- This is probably a controversial one, but having images of celebs/role models that you think have a great body or just look great, will help you get inspiration!

- Printing out motivational quotes and putting them around your house, will help give you that encouragement you need to continue and stick to your routines!

So hopefully, If you're someone who is lacking that little bit of motivation, have no idea where to start or need some more help, this post has helped you that little bit! Getting that motivation you need to be successful and achieving your goals can be hard at first, but once you're there, you can do anything!

How do you get motivated? Do you include any of these tips? What other tips do you have?

AD| In search of a New Year's resolution that you'll actually focus on and achieve? Look no further!

When it comes to New Year's resolutions, many people will struggle to keep up with their resolutions simply by being unrealistic or overambitious. In order to achieve your goals and targets for the year, you need to opt for changes that are manageable, maintainable and actually realistic, to help keep you on tack. Try to incorporate some of these simple New Year's resolution ideas into your daily routine for a healthier lifestyle in 2022.

healthy lifestyle

— Improve Your Diet for Weight Management -
At the beginning of the New Year, many people look at ways in which they can improve their overall health by gaining, losing or maintaining their weight, whilst managing a better relationship with the food/drink that they consume. After indulging throughout the festive period and the New Year, health and fitness becomes many people's main focus for the year ahead.

To help you get started, there are a number of useful health and fitness conversion tools that can be found on the Culinary Schools website, e.g., calories calculator, body fat and weight loss. The weight loss calculator is an extremely useful tool to use in order for you to estimate how much you will need to change your diet and exercise routine in order to kickstart and reach your weight loss goals. The tool is super easy to use, you simply input all your personal data, e.g., height, weight, age, activity level etc, and all your results are laid out for you to clearly see, and to easily help you understand what steps you need to take for weight loss.

— Get Better Quality Sleep -
Sleep plays such a vital role in your overall health, it's essential for maintaining your physical and mental health, so it's important to make it a priority by getting at least 7 hours per night. In order to achieve better quality sleep, there are a number of changes you can make to your daily routine to make this happen. For example, follow a regular bedtime/wake time schedule, invest in new pillows, a new mattress and duvets for a more comfortable sleep, less screen time before bed, and try to avoid caffeine/alcohol late at night. Also, you could try using a sleep support patch. These are designed to help you fall asleep quickly and more comfortably, allowing you to achieve better quality sleep, and feeling refreshed upon waking up.

outdoor yoga

— Become More Active -
Using the New Year to become more active and find a physical activity/workout routine that you can actually enjoy is not only beneficial for your physical health, but it can also do wonders at improving your mental health. Not everyone will enjoy going on long-distance runs or bike rides, as this may be too strenuous and exhausting, but there are a few simple ways you can become more active in your everyday routine. By spending more time outdoors, getting some much-needed exercise, as well as some fresh air, is a good way to relieve stress and improve mental health. A few good examples include getting in 10,000 steps a day, yoga sessions, at-home workouts, weight-lifting, or even just going out for daily walks will all help to boost your fitness levels.

— Cook More and Less Takeaway Food -
Those of you who lead a busy lifestyle, you might find it easier to order a takeaway or pick up some fast food on your way home from work/school – but this could be stopping you from achieving an improved diet and healthy lifestyle. Research has shown that those who frequently cook their own meals at home will typically eat more healthily and consume fewer calories than those who regularly indulge in take-out foods – but eating these types of foods in moderation could be exactly what you need to balance in your diet. A takeaway once to twice a month isn't going to hurt…right?!

Cooking more at home doesn't have to be difficult, especially if you aren't so confident in the kitchen. You're simply not going to become a Michelin chef overnight, so practice makes perfect. If learning to cook is one of your New Year's resolutions, it's best to start off with a few basic recipes that you can practice time and time again to help improve your cooking confidence. I've previously featured a number of super simple recipes that you can include in your weekly meal ideas, these include Chicken and Broccoli Pesto Pasta, Beef Lasagne, Fiery Coconut Prawn Curry and a quick and easy Spiced Butternut Squash Soup.

self care

— Make Time for Self Care -
If you're not making enough time for daily/weekly self-care, you're more likely to feel overwhelmed, stressed and unhappy. Practising self-care will not only make you feel more confident and more happy on the outside, but also on the inside. To help create a self-care routine that you can squeeze into your everyday life, try incorporating a few things that you enjoy or make you happy. These don't have to be anything too extravagant – maybe a nice relaxing bubble bath, a face mask, book yourself in for a massage, go for a walk in the park, or even take some time out of your schedule to make time for a new hobby or something you're passionate about.

What are your New Year's resolutions? What resolutions, goals and targets do you want to achieve in 2022?

AD| Improving your dental heath and sustaining healthy teeth really does takes a lifetime of care, but can be fairly straightforward if you follow a good routine. It's important to take the necessary steps in your daily routine in order to properly take care of your teeth and prevent any dental problems occurring in the future. Listed below are a number of easy ways in which we can all improve our dental health with a few simple lifestyle changes.

dental health

- Change Your Diet and Lifestyle -
The choices we make when it comes to what we eat and drink is important for those looking to improve their dental health. Eating too much of the wrong types of food and drink can cause tooth decay, and lead to poor dental hygiene. Leading a healthier lifestyle, including eating a balanced diet, avoiding smoking and tracking your alcohol and sugar intake are all beneficial for good dental health.

For those who have made poor diet or lifestyle choices, it can be extremely hard to get your white smile back after years of bad habits. Drinking certain drinks like tea/coffee and smoking can lead to tooth discoloration and bad breath. In this case, many people lacking confidence due to their bad dental health may look at getting help with cosmetic procedures to try and boost themselves. Many people opt for private dental cosmetic procedures or even dental treatments in Turkey due to their high-quality, affordable dental work, which is bound to get you smiling again.

- Brush Properly -
Aiming to brush your teeth after every meal clean away any food/debris from becoming stuck in-between your teeth and gums. The way in which we brush out teeth is extremely important. When brushing, you should ensure you take your time to make sure you cover all areas of your teeth, gums and tongue. Making sure to move your toothbrush slowly in gentle, circular motions will help to remove any debris, stains or plaque.

However, brushing your teeth too hard and aggressively, or even using a hard-bristled toothbrush can cause damage to your teeth and gums. The effects of over-brushing can include many dental problems such as tooth sensitivity, damage to the protective enamel, and bleeding gums and erosion

- Visit Your Dentist Regularly -
Dentists typically recommend that you make an appointment to see your dentist at least every 6 months for a routine check-up. Many people often skip dentist appointments due to fear, costs or having no free time to attend, or even simply avoid going all together. Scheduling regular visits to your dentist are essential for the maintenance of your overall dental health, and both your teeth and gums. Regular dental check-ups can not only keep your teeth in a good, healthy condition now, but dentists are also able to check for any future issues that can be treated asap. Dentists can also recommend any treatments that they feel are necessary, including teeth whitening, braces and dental veneers, to help keep your teeth healthy and strong.

- Consider Using Chewing Gum/Mouthwash -
For those of you who are constantly on-the-go and may be unable to brush your teeth after eating/drinking, chewing gum can help prevent plaque tooth decay, protect your teeth and promotes good oral health, as long as you opt for a sugar-free gum. Chewing gum allows your mouth to increase the amount of saliva that is produced, this then helps to neutralise some of the acid that forms when you break down food or drink, as well as rinsing it away.

Incorporating mouthwash into your daily dental routine will give you that extra help when looking to remove unwanted bacteria/debris from inside your mouth. As mouthwash is a liquid, it is able to reach areas of your mouth that you may not have access to or you don't always brush. There are also specific mouthwashes available online and in-stores that may be able to help those suffering with bad breath and any unwanted dental problems.

AD| Children tend to be taught the basics of reproduction and sexual health at school, around the time of puberty or shortly before, but there is a lot that isn’t covered. As a result, when we grow into adults, we often have a fairly limited understanding of fertility, especially as it still remains quite a taboo subject. This is particularly true of infertility; we often avoid talking about the problems some couples face when trying to conceive a child.

If you hope to have a baby one day, it’s important to try and educate yourself as much as possible about fertility and how to increase your chances of conceiving. Here are five fantastic facts to get you started…

FEMALE PREGNANCY FERTILITY

1. Female Babies Are Born with the Most Eggs They’ll Ever Have
When a female baby is born, she has around 1-2 million eggs. With every menstrual cycle, roughly 3-5 thousand eggs are lost, until they eventually run out. Some women consider egg freezing as an option as this preserves their fertility until they are ready to have a baby in later life.

2. Ovulation is the Best Time to Try to Conceive
If you have a regular period, you should be able to determine when you are ovulating because it usually happens around 10-16 days before your period. You may also notice clearer cervical mucus and a small rise in temperature. Some women have other symptoms, like tender breasts or bloating. You could also use an ovulation test to determine when you are ovulating.

3. Your Diet Can Affect Your Fertility
If you are trying to conceive, you will need to consider your diet to boost your chances of conceiving. Eggs are one of the top fertility boosting foods because they are full of protein and Vitamins B12 and E. Oily fish, avocado, full fat diary and garlic are some other ingredients you should consider adding to your diet.

4. Endometriosis Can Affect Fertility
Endometriosis is a common condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside of the womb. This tissue is what breaks apart and causes a bleed during a period and when endometriosis happens in the ovary, it can cause a cyst, which may affect a woman’s ovarian reserve and their overall fertility.

5. Women Can Donate their Eggs
Egg donation is when a woman with healthy eggs donates them to another woman who is undergoing fertility treatment. It’s an extraordinary act as it can help a couple with fertility issues to have a baby. It is legal in the UK, but it is not legal to pay a woman for her eggs.

Of course, the five facts above merely scratch the surface and there is still so much more to learn about both female and male fertility. One thing to note, if you have been trying to conceive unsuccessfully for over a year, it might be wise to make an appointment with your GP so that they can carry out an assessment and find out if there is anything that could be causing infertility.

Sometimes cases of infertility go unexplained, but often doctors will be able to come to a conclusion and suggest your options. Bear in mind that if you have been using some form of contraception, it may take some time for your fertility to return to normal.

Did you know any of these facts previously? What other facts about female fertility do you know?

AD - GIFTED | Love the occasional glass of red wine? Did you know it might have health benefits too?

When it comes to making healthier lifestyle and diet choices, alcohol consumption isn't typically the first thing that you would consider. However, drinking occasional glasses of red wine has been linked to a host a number of positive health benefits that can improve your lifestyle and diet.

There's little doubt that consuming red wine has a number of health benefits, but those benefits will only apply if you drink wine occasionally and in moderation. Consuming large, excessive amounts of alcohol is not good for your body and your health in general, so lets look at 3 health benefits of drinking red wine in moderation.

red wine

Can Lower Cholesterol Levels
Red wines are typically known to help lower the bad cholesterol levels in your body. The powerful antioxidants found in red wine may increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol - which is good for you, and help protect the body against cholesterol build-up. The NHS free tools can educate and advise you in aiming to help to cut down on alcohol too - they always advise to drink less, but better quality wines.

Keeps Heart Healthy
One of red wine's most popular health benefits is its effect on your hearts health. Many individuals believe that consumption of red wine can be linked to lower risks of heart/body inflammation and heart disease, as well as a reducing your chances of dying from a heart attack. When red wine is produced, it retains the skin of the grapes used during the fermentation process and this is usually where the beneficial chemicals are located. Red wine typically contains a number of beneficial nutrients that are linked with keeping a healthy heart, including: Polyphenols, Quercetin and Resveratrol - which are all powerful antioxidants with huge health benefits.

Full of Antioxidants
Antioxidants are vital substances typically used for maintaining good health, as they help to protect your cells from damage. Red wine contains powerful antioxidants called Polyphenols. These are what helps protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart. The majority of health benefits red wine has to offer are linked to Resveratrol -an antioxidant found in the skin of grapes.

Independent Wine is one of the UK’s leading specialist in award-winning Italian wine, and the company stocks a large variety of Italian wines that have won some top awards. Recently, I was kindly gifted a couple of bottles of red wine from Independent Wine, to see what I thought and to share online.

Siddùra Erema Independent Wines

1. Siddùra Erema 2018 | Cannonau di Sardegna DOC
This full bodied Sardinian red wine has a deep, dark ruby colour, enriched with aromas of wild berries and cherry, as well as hints of spicy black pepper. A powerful wine with aromas of fresh, spiced berries, made from Sardinia’s signature black grape variety - Cannonau, thought to be the most ancient in the Mediterranean. It is full of powerful and healthy antioxidants, which is a key element of the famous Sardinian diet.

Pietrafinita Italian Wines

2. Feudi di Guagnano Pietrafinita | Primitivo di Manduria DOC 2019
Old-vine Primitivo wine has a very luxurious and rich flavour, with hints of blackberry and liquorice. It has quite a remarkable depth of flavour due to the particular winemaking process used to make this wine. The Pietrafinita wine again has a deep ruby colour, with strong aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and liquorice. Since it’s made from passito grapes, this wine has a elements of dried raisins, dates and prunes, followed by notes of coconut and cinnamon.

I've decided to write about something slightly different from my usual fashion or beauty related posts, and share with you some of my hair care tips. Looking after your hair doesn't have to be a time consuming, expensive and a laborious task, as simple tips and tricks can help minimise weak, damaged hair from everyday wear and tear.

As I am someone with long, thick hair, it can be difficult to maintain and keep looking its best, but using some of the following tips helps to keep my locks in the best condition. I've also included a few of my own personal recommendations of products that I have tried or using at the moment, that I really love and think help to keep my own hair looking strong and healthy.

1. Protect Hair Against Heat
Protecting your hair from the likes of blow drying and straightening are a must for healthy hair. Without any form of defence, the hair is subject to breakage and splitting, a definite no no! Heat Sprays are essential to keep hair away from damage and burning, and are a must for anyone using any for of heat styling!
I'd Recommend: TRESemmé Heat Defence Styling Spray

2. Use A Good Shampoo and Conditioner Suitable For Your Hair Type
Using a good shampoo and conditioner suitable for your hair is a general must! This tip allows you to focus on your hair and make sure you're buying the right products. Most brands offer a selection of products that cater for all hair types, for example dry, damaged, coloured, long, frizzy etc.
I'd Recommend: Aussie

3. Don't Let Split Ends Spoil Your Hair
Split ends occur from everyday wear and tear, and can have your hair not looking its best. With visits to the hair dressers being pricey, using a split ends treatment can keep them minimised and disguised for that little bit longer. These treatments contain proteins that help to repair and rebuild the hair, helping to maintain luscious locks!
I'd Recommend: Bondi Boost Rapid Repair Serum

4. Don't Tie Hair Up Too Tightly
This tip may come as a bit of a surprise to some of you, but tying hair up too tightly encourages damage and breakage to existing hair, as well as growing hair. This also can lead to weak and damaged hair that no one wants!
I'd recommend: Metal Free Hairbands

5. Have A Good Hairbrush
Having a good hairbrush is an essential part of maintaining beautiful healthy hair. When picking a hair brush, go for one that good at tackling everyday tangles, as tugging on hair causes breakage and damage. Also, brushing from the ends helps keep hair healthy and damage free, as this helps to ease out an tangles.

6. Pamper Your Hair With A Weekly Hair Mask/Treatment
Using a weekly hair mask or treatment helps to give your hair a boost from everyday wear and tear. Most of these contain various proteins that help to repair and reconstruct hair, leaving it looking healthy and shiny, and feeling soft and smooth.
I'd Recommend: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor

7. Let Your Hair Dry Naturally When You Can
Letting your hair dry naturally helps maintain and protect your hair, as you are using no heat. After a shower or bath, give your hair a quick pat and squeezing the hair gently between the towel. Avoid rubbing and pulling, as this causes damage and breakage. If you need to use a blow dryer, try letting hair dry naturally for as long as possible, and try to limit the temperature and time spent drying.

8. Get Hair Trimmed Regularly
Whilst you can minimise the sight of split ends, getting your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks is an essential stage in maintaining healthy hair. You can do this yourself, just getting some sharp scissors and trimming slightly above your split ends, saving yourself a trip to the hairdressers, as well as some money!

9. Washing With Warm/Cool Water
The use of warm water naturally open the pores of your scalp, which is great for removing the oil and any dirt. The use of cool water helps to add shine and to seal in the hairs moisture. Avoid using Hot/Cold water as these can be damaging to your hair. Hot water strips your hair of its natural oils and also cause hair to become frizzy, meanwhile cold water can leave your hair looking quite flat. Whilst cleansing and washing your hair use warm water, not hot. You don’t want to burn your skin and your scalp. When you’re ready to rinse out the conditioner, use cool water for a final rinse.

10. Maintain A Healthy Diet for Healthy Hair
Having a healthy diet will ensure and help to prolong better-looking, better-feeling hair. A diet packed with protein, vitamin C, iron, zinc and omega 3, are all helpful in keeping hair damage free and healthy!

AD - GIFTED | Many people choose to take part in workout classes, exercise and other physical activities to help them maintain a healthier lifestyle and have a positive impact on their mental health. Whether you're looking to get fit, a new user of the gym or you're someone who attends for multiple sessions a week, sometimes the day after a tiring workout can be quite a struggle.

If you're currently committing to at-home workouts, attending gym classes or getting outside for your workouts, there are plenty of ways in which you can aid your body post-workout. The amount, intensity, and length of your workouts all play a huge role in determining how exhausting it is on your body. Also, things such as your physical body type, stamina and fitness levels are key factors in determining the best way to recover and the length of time necessary. Let's look at 7 ways to help aid body recovery for everyone to consider after your next workout.

WORKOUT ROUTINE

Stretching after you've completed your workout for the day can have so many short and long-term benefits. It would be incredibly stupid not to spend at least 5-10mins after every session to work on stretching - it can also double up as your cool down to help slowly get your body back to a normal, resting state. A number of benefits include helping to increase your flexibility, prevent risk of future injuries, and helps to relax muscle tension in your body.

Consuming enough nutritious foods will give your body the much needed energy, fuel, vitamins and minerals it needs to perform day to day bodily functions and to recover quickly post-workout. Diet plays a huge role in helping the body to recovery after strenuous exercise and tiring workout sessions. After any workout, your body needs time to repair and recover. Making sure to consume enough protein in your diet, especially after your intense workout, can begin to start repairing the muscles.

Consuming enough water before, during and after your workouts helps to control and regulate your body temperature. Making sure to rehydrate is essential for those who have exercised /worked-out intensely or have broken into a sweat. Drinking water and other fluids are essential for your post-workout routine and to aid your recovery. Hydration after a workout is a vital step in your road to recovery. If you’re simply not hydrated enough, your body will not be able to perform at its highest level.

BODY MASSAGE

Many individuals, especially athletes and regular gym users incorporate massage into their recovery routine in order to reduce any muscle soreness, easing any of your aches or pain and improving your overall flexibility. Massage also can help to decrease your stress levels, reduce any inflammation, improve circulation in the body and also can help boost your mental health. If you're looking to get your hands on a personalized massage gun, you may want to keep on reading and find out my experiences using Actigun.

Getting enough good, quality rest is easily one of the most effective ways to recover after an intense workout. Sleep is so essential and a plays a key role in your daily bodily functions. Sleep allows your body to slowly repair its muscle tissue, and by making sure you're resting enough each night - 8 hours is a good time-frame, you'll also be reducing your chances of any future injury and struggling with fatigue. It's also essential to ensure you have both a comfortable and support pillow and mattress to ensure your body holds a correct posture all night long.

Not only will a nice cold shower will help you cool off after an intense, sweaty workout, they can also help benefit your body in a number of other ways. Cold showers can also have some amazing effects on your well-being and health. Cold showers help to improve circulation in the body, increase your alertness, speeds up muscle recovery and improves your immunity.

Another vital way you can aid your body into recovery after your workouts is to incorporate rest days into your weekly routine. Rest days are just as important in your routine as exercise is. Obviously, the main reason for this would be to allow your muscles to recover from any strain or damage from previous workouts. It’s needed for muscle recovery and repair, preventing injury and fatigue, and will help to increase your overall performance. Letting your body recover after exercise and getting good, quality rest is the best thing you can do for your body and your fitness goals.
