AD – GIFTED| Are you looking at ways you can begin to have a more sustainable period? Did you even know there are more eco-friendly period products on offer?

The term 'sustainable periods' simply means you're actively changing the products you are using and making a conscious effort to reduce the amount of waste that your periods produce, especially plastics and single-use items. For those who menstruate, and deal with regular periods, the products we choose to use during this time is completely individual, and ultimately, what works for some people, might not work for others. Sanitary pads, followed closely by the use of tampons, are probably the most frequently chosen period products that are used by consumers, but did you know there are other options too? Listed below are 4 sustainable and eco-friendly period products worth trying now.

— Reusable Sanitary Pads —
Reusable sanitary pads are a great way to begin your switch over to having a more sustainable and eco-friendly period. There are a number of reasons to make the switch to reusable pads;
  • Reusable pads decrease the amount of plastic waste that is created.
  • Reusable pads are a much cheaper, and more long-lasting period product compared to regular disposable sanitary pads.
  • Reusable pads are typically much safer to use than regular sanitary pads, as regular pads can sometimes cause skin irritation and contain chemicals.
I was recently sent a box of the Trade To Aid Reusable Sanitary Pads to try out and see if they could help me change up the products I use and to have a more sustainable period. The pack of reusable sanitary pads include a variety of different sized pads, depending on your period flow and the absorbancy that you require. You receive 2 light flow, 2 medium flow and 2 heavy flow reusable pads along with 1 waterproof wet bag to store them in after use. These sanitary pads are suitable for both day and nighttime use, leak-proof and are super comfortable to wear.

Trade To Aid Reusable Sanitary Pads

The 6 pack of reusable sanitary pads are retailing at £29.97 for 6 – this may seem like a lot of money, but by using them time and time again. These seem to be a more affordable option as you are not constantly buying disposable period pads. As a bonus, for every pack of reusable pads that are purchased from Trade To Aid, they then donate a pack to a refugee or those in desperate need of sanitary. This campaign is in place with the aim to end period poverty to eliminate the taboos surrounding periods.

 — Menstrual Cups —
In recent years, the menstrual cup has quickly become a popular sustainable period product to use as an alternative to regular tampons and sanitary pads. The majority of menstrual cups produced now are made from either silicone or rubber, making them reusable, durable and long-lasting. Menstrual cups typically give you longer lasting protection on your period's heavier days, and can usually hold 2-3 times more than a regular tampon or pad. Reusable menstrual cups are a great option for those looking for affordable, safe and effective period products, as they can typically last for between 6 months to a number of years with proper care and use.

— Washable and Reusable Period Pants —
Another sustainable option includes washable and reusable period pants. Over the last few years, many well-known menstrual care brands have been launching period-proof underwear for sale – including online brands like WUKA and Flux Undies, as well as high street brands, Primark and M&S. Most brands have incorporated a variety of styles of period underwear into their production line, including high-waisted briefs to boxer style shorts and even thongs. By having a range of different styles, this allows you to pick styles according to your preferences, and to test and try out multiple products, in order for you to find what is most comfortable and most effective for you. Typically, period pants are manufactured to be leak-proof – perfect for those suffering with heavy flows, as they are designed by using a super-absorbent fabric which is often odour-eliminating too.

— Reusable Tampon Applicators —
Reusable tampon applicators are something I only discovered towards the end of 2021. A reusable tampon applicator is a great alternative to single-use applicator tampons, and are perfect for those who are looking to reduce their use of plastics. Reusable tampon applications are extremely easy to clean and sterilize – you simply rinse with warm water and soap during your period, and sterilize them with boiling water for 5 minutes between your periods. They are also typically made from medical grade material, making them extremely durable and long-lasting, allowing them to be used again and again. They take a little while to get use to, but once you are confident with using them, it's incredible quick and easy.

reusable tampon applicator

Last year,  Lil-Lets made the decision to cease production of all their plastic applicator tampons – saving over 11 tonnes of period waste from landfill or the oceans each year. The new Lil-Lets reusable tampon applicator comes with a money-back guarantee – and will be sold at the introductory price of £12.99 until March 31st, 2022. From then on, they will retail at £17.99. So that's another good reason to make the sustainable switch for a more planet-friendly period.

What period products are you currently using? Would you begin to use a more sustainable option?

wedding decor

It can also give your guests something to look forwards to and ensure they have enough time to plan their outfits, get the time off from work etc. Creating your own personalised wedding Save the Date Cards allows you to have complete control of the design, by letting you to fully personalize your invitations by choosing your own colour theme, layout, and fonts etc.

Create DIY Wedding Centrepieces/Name Cards for Tables
Something that might be forgotten when it comes to decorating your wedding venue is table decorations. DIY Wedding decorations can help you save time and save money – you just need to be creative. Table decor ideas such as filling old jars with candles, flowers, rocks, marbles etc, is a simple and effective way to put a finishing touch on your wedding guests tables. You can also design your own name cards and seating plans for your guests, by selecting matching colours, fonts, and designs, that co-ordinate with your decor theme.

Make Your Own Wedding Favours
The traditional idea of distributing small wedding favours to your wedding guests is hundreds of years old, and many couples still make something special to help guests remember your wedding day and why you got married. Putting together your own wedding favours can be a quick and easy task, which can save you money, as well as allowing you to give a small gift as a gesture of appreciation to those who attended. Things such as chocolates and sweets, homemade baked items, thank you notes, wooden plaques and name tags, are all great examples of low-cost wedding favours.

Have Your Guests Create the Music Playlist
Hiring a DJ for your wedding can be extremely expensive, and it can be a hard task to track someone down who plays your favourite styles of music. Why not consider allowing your family and guests to pick songs for your wedding playlist?
You can simply ask your guests to submit their song requests to a group playlist. Once all the music has then been added, you will end up with a wide selection of music for your wedding day, and you know that all your guests will enjoy what's being played.

Use Fake Flowers for Bouquets
By opting for fake flowers, not only do they last much longer than fresh flowers and are a much more affordable way to create your floral bouquets, but you can probably find them in any colour that you want. You can personally pick exactly what types of flower you like, e.g., roses, tulips, lilies, and as they are fake, you can pick any colour to match your wedding theme and decor. Another benefit of using fake flowers is that they are unlikely to get damaged during transportation to your wedding venue, meaning you can buy them early and store them easily, without any problems. You can also make small bouquets for table decor using fake flowers to add some colour and vibrancy to your guests tables.

Decorate The Wedding Venue Yourself
Instead of looking at hiring an interior decorator for your wedding venue, you can opt for being creative and decorating the venue yourself, with help from friends and family, in a way that suits your personal tastes. This allows you to have 100% creativity as you can decorate however you like – with items such as balloons, lights, signs, banners, photographs etc.

Make Your Own Fun Photo Booth with Props
Finally, no wedding is complete without a photo booth – but these can be costly. If you have the budget for this, why not consider Photo booth rental Las Vegas. A company aiming to provide top-of-the-class service for all clients’ parties, weddings, and all types of events. Otherwise, why not set up your own photo booth in a corner of the venue, so yourself and your guests can take photographs to remember your big day. You can simply grab a digital camera or a smartphone and place on a tripod. Make sure to create an area in your venue with a simple backdrop or create your own flower wall.

To add a fun factor to this, you can put together a collection of props to use, that you may have in your home. Opt for items that might be fun to use – e.g., coloured sunglasses, fancy dress accessories, hats, inflatables, or you can buy things cheaply in pound shops or discount stores.

Are you getting married soon? What other creative ways can you personalise your wedding day?

GUEST POST| The romantics amongst you will undoubtedly say the only reason to get married is luuuuurve, baby. And you’re probably right. After all, getting married without being in love with each other is probably asking for trouble. And when I say ‘probably’, I mean, ‘definitely’.  But there are many reasons to get married other than love. Reasons that aren’t good enough to be the only reason to get married, but reasons that are simply the icing on your wedding cake.

Some reasons in this article won’t apply to you if you’re already living together – which you probably are, seeing as it’s not 1950 and ‘living over t’brush’ is no longer frowned upon. But if you’re not living together yet, a couple of these reasons might edge you nearer the living together stage of a relationship.

marriage

You Get A Day Out At A Beautiful Venue
This is possibly a shallow reason to get married, but who doesn’t love a day out at a beautiful venue? You can of course simply have a quickie marriage at a registry office, then go home for a cup of tea and a Rich Tea biscuit in front of Emmerdale if that’s your idea of a perfect day. For those of you who like a bit of pomp and ceremony, though, you’ll need to get married. You could get married at a castle, a safari park, a field full of sunflowers or a beautiful wedding venue in Essex.

You Automatically Inherit Their Assets
People like to think they get married for love, not money, but inheritance is an important issue. For example, you could live with someone for thirty years but, if you’re not married and something happens to your partner, you’ll receive nothing. There’s been a long-held myth that common-law marriage kicks in after a certain amount of time, but there’s not actually any such thing as common-law marriage in the UK. (You can draw up a cohabitation agreement, but that’s something for another post.)

What this means is, if you’re not married and one of you dies, the assets will go to the next of kin. Whether that’s a very much-loved parent, a needy niece, or a greedy sibling you haven’t spoken to for decades. However, when you’re married, if one of you dies, the other automatically inherits everything. Yay.

Someone On Hand To Fix Stuff
Perhaps you don’t need anyone to fix stuff, and can fix a leaky tap or build a fitted wardrobe by yourself perfectly well, thank you very much. If you live on your own though and your DIY skills are lacking, marrying someone who’s good at that kind of thing will save you a fortune. As well as this, it's by far more convenient than waiting in for tradespeople to turn up (or not turn up, as the case may be). Even if you are good at fixing and building stuff, having someone around to help move the furniture out of the way when you’re decorating or putting a new floor down always comes in handy.

MARRIAGE

It’s Cheaper
Another financial reason, and another reason that won’t apply if you’re already living together, is that it’s cheaper. You may have heard the saying ‘two can live as cheaply as one’ and to a certain extent, it’s true. You’ll save money by sharing the utility bills and, although you’d think feeding two people would cost twice as much as one person, it doesn’t seem to work out like that and your weekly shopping bill will go down.

Help With Pets
I’ve left the best reason until last. Anyone who has ever lived alone with a cat will know what I’m saying here. An extra pair of hands to help get a cat into a basket when it’s time to visit the vet is always welcome. Trying to get a cat in a basket by yourself usually only ends up in tears – yours and the cat’s.  What is also welcome is someone to help out with the feeding, exercising and cleaning up of your pet’s various bodily functions.

Reasons to get married other than love – As I said at the beginning, getting married purely for reasons other than love is just asking for an unhappy marriage that will probably end in divorce. But there’s nothing wrong with taking other factors into consideration when deciding whether to tie the knot.

Are you considering getting married in the future?

GUEST POST| New figures suggest that one in three property sales will fall through before completion. That’s a scarily high figure for anyone in the process of buying a property, or hoping to do so in the near future. Danny Luke from Quick Move Now explains: “The UK property market is under a lot of pressure at the moment. The stamp duty measures put in place to stop the market stalling during the national lockdowns led to a stampede of people looking to move. This resulted in property prices rising at unexpected levels.

“A shortage of properties coming to the market has kept prices high and continuing to rise, with properties often selling at above asking price. There is also high competition for each property that becomes available. Some buyers are offering sky-high prices in an attempt to secure a property but then getting cold feet and pulling out of the sale, whilst others are not offering enough and then getting pushed out when a higher offer comes in. It’s a challenging market for all involved.” If you’re keen to keep your sale on track, these are our 5 top tips to stop your house sale falling through...

house sales

1. Make sure the offer you make is a ‘head’ decision, rather than a ‘heart’ decision. You want to ensure you offer a high enough price to avoid being gazumped by another buyer, but you also need to be happy with the price you’ve agreed when the initial buzz of having your offer accepted wears off. It’s important that you discuss any offer you want to make with the estate agent, and ask them what level of offer would take the property off the market and prevent any further viewings.

2. Make sure you choose the right solicitor (and estate agent if you’re selling a property). This will make a huge difference to the speed and success of your move. A good solicitor will be very responsive to any queries that come in and make sure all paperwork is completed in a timely manner. A good estate agent will keep everyone informed about how the sale is going and ensure everyone stays engaged in the process. Spotting any warning signs that someone may be considering pulling out of the sale and hopefully being able to address any issues to keep them on-board.

3. Prepare as best you can before putting your property on the market or making an offer. This will make a big difference to your move, avoiding any delays and helping the transaction to go smoothly. This means getting your finances in place, including getting an agreement in principle for any mortgage required, and ensuring you collate any paperwork relating to your current property.

4. Be flexible and keep lines of communication open. Moving house is a collaborative process which requires flexibility from all parties. When frustrations arise, it’s important that you are proactive in seeking solutions. Keep all parties informed of any challenges or set-backs, and you will be more likely to keep them on board with the sale.

5. Be resilient. Unfortunately, challenges and disappointments are often part of the house moving process. In England and Wales, a property sale or purchase is not binding until contracts have been exchanged, which typically happens just a week or two before the sale completes. That leaves a large amount of room for things to go wrong. When something does go wrong and a sale falls through, or a chain breaks down, it is hugely disappointing, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that your move won’t happen at all. Communication will be key in this situation. Appeal to your buyer or seller’s understanding and get another sale or purchase lined up as quickly as you can.

While there’s no blueprint on making the most of university life, we’re on hand with some of our top tips to help you get the most out of your experience. So, if enjoying a fulfilling, rewarding and fun university experience is on the agenda, read on.

university

Embrace Freshers

University doesn’t have to be all work and no play – it’s all about finding a balance. When you’re first settling in, socializing is essential. Freshers’ week activities offer an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself into university life and make new friends. Ensure you pick out some freshers’ week opportunities to attend, either solo or with your roommates so that you can get used to student life without the pressure of your studies.

Get Your Priorities In Order

Once you’ve had some fun with freshers week, it’s time to find the balance we mentioned. When you’re juggling an intense study schedule, socializing, working, cooking, cleaning, and so much more, it can be easy to drop the ball. To get the most of the university life, understanding your priorities is essential. Take the time to consider what is and isn’t important to you. Whether it’s regular trips home, a part-time job or extracurricular activities, be clear on your non-negotiables.

Establish a Routine

It can be easy to fall into late nights and sleeping in, particularly during freshers’ week. However, establishing a routine that works for you early on can make a world of difference. Rather than falling into unhealthy habits, stick to a routine that enriches your experience. Whether it is regular trips to the library and gym or cooking meals in bulk and an early morning walk to start your day, a routine is a must. Even if your current schedule doesn’t require a strict routine, you’ll be glad that you have already found your groove when your workload increases.

Get To Know Your Tutors

Your tutors will likely offer open hours when you can lean on them for support. Whether you need advice, book recommendations or a private chat, your tutors are at your disposal. So, take the time to get to know your tutors and lean on them should you need the support.

Find Your Tribe

Whether you team up with fellow students from your course, join a club or start your own society, finding your tribe at university will undoubtedly contribute to your experience. To find out more about societies and clubs at your university, check out your student union's website or join online forums. Trust us; there are some seriously weird and wonderful options to choose from!

Explore Your Local Area

They say the best way to discover a new place is to get lost, and we recommend doing precisely that. If you’re new to the area, you’ll want to explore. So, find a friend or two and explore your new home. From local bars and restaurants to attractions and shops, taking the time to discover all the facilities at your fingertips is a great way to settle in and meet new people along the way.

Take Care of Yourself
While university life is a lot of fun, it also comes with a lot of hard work and, at times, pressure. Therefore, taking care of both your physical and mental health is essential to getting the best out of your university years. If you’re struggling with anything at all, know what you’re not alone. Whether you lean on your peers, tutors, loved ones or a professional, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. From ensuring you’re eating well and getting enough sleep to exercising and watching your alcohol intake, make your health a priority throughout your time at university, and you’ll reap the benefits.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to experience university. Just work hard, have fun, and take care of yourself. It will be one hell of a journey, so enjoy the ride! Novel is home to quality student accommodation in Leicester with amazing facilities such as private bedrooms, social spaces, a gym, and a games' room in the heart of the city.

Did you go to university? How did you make the most out of your time there?

GUEST POST| After the glow of the honeymoon phase has faded, you may feel as though your relationship has got a little stale. You still love your partner, of course, but you may have fallen into a rut in the romance department. It’s completely natural for a relationship to shift over time, but you don’t have to settle for watching the passion slowly fade away. You don’t need a holiday or special occasion to add a little spark to your life. Here are 8 creative tips to renew the romance in your life.

relationship

1. Set up a self-care day.
When you’re feeling stressed and exhausted, romance is the last thing on your mind. Give your partner the gift of a day of rest and relaxation, and they may just thank you for it in a special way. Book a massage at your local spa, put together an at-home spa kit, or set them up with their favourite snacks and a stack of DVDs. However, your partner likes to relax, make it happen.

2. Share a homemade meal.
Nothing is more romantic than a candle-lit dinner, so throw on your apron and whip up your partner’s favourite meal. Pour yourselves a glass of red wine and spend the evening enjoying each other’s company. It’s the perfect time to check in with each other and to really focus on your special bond.

3. Write them a love letter.
When you’ve been with the same partner for a while, you develop a certain level of comfort. While it’s certainly a good thing to feel comfortable with your partner, sometimes couples find themselves falling out of the habit of really communicating. If you want to spark some romance in your relationship, write your partner a love letter. Remind them why you love them, recall cherished memories from the past, and maybe offer a little teaser of how you hope the night will end.

4. Upgrade your bedroom décor.
If things are feeling a little stale in the bedroom, switch it up – literally! Purchase some new pillows, upgrade your worn-out comforter, and add some soft lighting. When outfitting your bedroom, it’s important to consider both you and your partner’s personal taste, but really try to focus on making the space a cosy, comfortable place for the two of you to share.

cosy bedroom

5. Book a hotel room.
Sometimes it’s difficult to get in the mood at home, especially if your home is also your workplace. If you’re looking to rekindle some romance, book a hotel room for you and your partner to enjoy an overnight date. It’s the perfect chance to visit your favourite restaurant or order some room service and just enjoy the night together.

6. Surprise them with new lingerie.
Nothing sparks a little romance like new lingerie. Whether you’re donning it yourself or purchasing it for your partner, lingerie is a great way to shake things up in the bedroom. When choosing lingerie, the key to feeling confident is to find something that makes you feel good.

7. Show them how much you care.
Physical intimacy starts with emotional intimacy, and sometimes all someone needs to feel romantic is to be reminded how much their partner cares for them. Spend the afternoon tackling your partner’s to-do list, so they can spend the evening relaxing. Buy the groceries, wash the car, or do whatever it is they’ve been putting off, so they have the time and energy to enjoy a little alone time with you.

8. Address your own insecurities.
If things are lacking in the romance department in your relationship, take a good hard look at yourself to see if you can figure out why. Sometimes when our confidence is low, we distance ourselves from the people we care about, and it can create a rift in the relationship. Whether you’re struggling with erectile dysfunction, you’re dissatisfied with your bodyweight, or you have another issue entirely, do what you need to do to address it, and you may just see the results in the romance department.

Every relationship is unique, so don’t feel like the ideas on this list are your only options. Get creative, using these ideas as inspiration to come up with something your partner will appreciate. What matters most is that you care for each other, and you’re both wiling to work to keep the spark alive.

AD| Streaming concerts have picked up out of necessity over the last couple of years, but there's no reason to fear that live shows are going to be replaced forever. Although you can more easily visit a digital concert, these are the top reasons why viewing these performances in person will always be king.

live stream

The Human Connection of the Crowds
When you're in a huge crowd of people who also enjoy what you do, there's a human connection that you can't get from just a chat room. You get to talk to others, feel a human link in person, sing along with the more popular songs as a group, and enjoy the rush of knowing that you're part of a community in person. Although you can be in a community online, seeing it in person makes it feel more real. Two thousand people in a live stream is nothing, but two thousand people in a stadium singing along together can feel emotionally powerful.

The Audio Quality of Music in Person
When you listen to a live show online, your sound experience is controlled entirely by whatever recording equipment they use and whatever speakers you have at home. This can be very limiting. At live concerts, you get to listen to them sing through fantastic speakers, or sometimes without any audio equipment at all. Although you can find musicians for hire outside of concerts for this experience, getting to see it with your favourite celebrity is unique.

Getting to Be in the Same Room as Stars
There’s nothing as incredible as getting to be in the same room as the stars you love! Even though a concert hall is often massive, you can sometimes get within a few hundred feet of a celebrity, and that can be thrilling. This is especially fun if it's someone whose career you've followed for years! It gives you the chance to see they're a real person putting their all into their career.

live music

The Incredible Adrenaline Live Shows Offer
The average person experiences a sublime rush of adrenaline during a live show. This is why some people cry at concerts, even if they're not sad. You get an intense swelling of emotion, and your chest can feel like your heart is going to beat its way out of your ribcage in excitement. This is something you can also experience through streaming concerts, but it's not as common an experience through a stream as it is in a show.

The Unique Memories This Creates
Streaming can give you the chance to create memories, but none are as unique or interesting as creating memories of a concert in person. You can grab dinner before you go, take your seats, and say that you saw a performer you adore in person! This is unique and incredible beyond any stream.

Streaming is Fine: But Live Concerts Rock
Of course, you can stream if you can't attend concerts right now! It's more than recommended for the average person. Still: it's a good idea to remember the joy of live shows and know that they're not going to leave for good, even if you can't attend one right now.

Do you enjoy live music shows? Who are your favourite bands/artists/musicians?

GUEST POST| Never underestimate the power of a healthy smile. Research showed that almost half of adults in the UK did not visit an NHS dentist in the past 24 months. Avoiding the dentist can impact your dental, overall, and even mental health. Investing in your smile can have numerous benefits. As such, it is worth spending the time and money on ensuring that you have a healthy, gleaming smile. These are a few reasons why you should consider investing in your smile.

WOMAN SMILING

Creates A Strong First Impression
First impressions are crucial. It forms the foundation of a person’s opinion about another person. One of the first noticeable things a person’s eyes will be drawn to is your smile. Investing in your smile can help you showcase it instead of hiding it away. When you invest in your smile, you are also investing in your self-esteem, as you are not attempting to hide your teeth. You are no longer feeling conscious about the appearance of your teeth. You no longer worry about it during work meetings or when talking to someone new.

Helps To Boost Your Confidence
Aside from creating a solid first impression, investing in your smile can help to boost your confidence. It can help you feel more confident about showing your smile in front of others. Investing in your smile by having your teeth straightened or whitened can help you gain a higher confidence level.

Find a dentist that offers an extensive range of services. They could either be local to you or a little further afield. For instance, if you were to live in London, regardless of where in the capital you lived, you could visit a dentist in Fulham, such as fulhamroaddental.com. Selecting a dentist that offers an extensive list of services will allow you to receive all of your treatments in the same place. You will not have to search for another dentist to have specialist treatment or procedures to help you achieve a perfect, confidence-boosting smile.

Limits of Expensive Dental Chances
Recommendations suggest you should be visiting the dentist twice a year. Each visit is to have a routine check-up and professional cleaning. It helps to ensure that any signs of tooth damage or tooth decay are spotted and treated, and resolved, limiting the chances of a significant dental issue. A common dental concern is gum disease. The sooner it is treated, the better. Gum disease can lead to extensive treatment to restore your gums when left untreated. This procedure is more invasive than the standard preventative cleaning received when visiting the dentist regularly.

Investing In Your Health
A surprising fact is how oral health can be connected to your overall health. It surprises many people when they learn how much of their oral health affects the rest of the body. Studies are looking into the connections between overall health and oral health. Research is looking to see the link between inflammation of the gums and inflammation of blood vessels that can cause heart disease. When you invest in your teeth, you are also helping to maintain the overall health of your body.

Poor oral health can impact your life in multiple ways. Your smile will influence how others will perceive you. It impacts your confidence and self-esteem. Investing in your smile to create a healthier mouth can positively impact overall.

How do you look after your teeth and smile?

AD| Compound interest occurs when interest gets added to the principal amount invested or borrowed. It's essentially interest on interest, which can in some cases work to your advantage as your savings and/or investments grow over a period of time. Compound interest plays an important financial role in both your savings, investments and any debts you might have. Understanding how this works could help you to make more money over time—or it could mean you pay more in interest if you're not careful with your planning.

The difficult thing about compound interest is that it can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on how you utilize it. For example, it’s great when interest compounds on an investment, allowing your contribution to grow. However, when compound interest is added to say a loan or debt on a credit card, it's not great because that's extra money you’ll have to pay back.

investments

What’s The Difference Between Simple & Compound Interest?
Simple interest is the interest you earn or accrue on the amount you invest or borrow. For example, say you invest £100 and earn 10% interest on your investment in a year. The interest earned would be £10. This £10 is simple interest.

Compound interest is the extra interest you earn in addition to the simple interest you've already earned. For example, with compound interest, the extra interest is added to your initial amount. So that £10 of interest would be added to your total, meaning you now have £110. Year-on-year, this amount would keep increasing as your compound interest would keep adding to your total.

So How Does It Work?
Say for example you put £1,000 into a savings account that had a 10% interest rate that compounds annually. At the end of the first year, you'll have £1,100. The £1,000 you initially put in to it, plus the £100 in interest. Then, at the end of the second year, you'll have £1,210. The £1,100 from the previous year, plus the additional £110 in added interest.

Compounding interest works slightly differently as instead of calculating interest based only on the original amount you put into savings, compounding interest calculates your annual interest based on your original amount, plus any previous interest you earned the previous year. So by the end of the 10th year, you'll have £2,594 (based on the 10% interest rate). You’ll have doubled your initial savings, without having to add any more of your own money. This is all thanks to compound interest.

How Do You Calculate Compound Interest?
To be able to calculate compound interest, there are a few things you need to work out first.
1. The amount you plan to invest that will be eligible for compound interest.
2. The interest rate on this amount.
3. How often compounding will occur.
4. How long your interest will compound.
Once you have the answers tool of the above, you will be able to calculate compound interest for your investment. Here is a reliable compound interest calculator you can use.

Use Your Knowledge of Compounding Interest Wisely
Once you understand how compounding works, you can make better, more strategic financial decisions. For example, you could look for a savings account that offers daily compound interest, instead of yearly. This means you can then transfer your savings into the account as frequently as possible. The more money you have in there, the more interest you will get from it, meaning you’ll get more of a return.

Hopefully this article will help you when it comes to working out if compound interest is for you.

How well did your blog perform in 2021? Did you achieve all your blogging goals you had set for the year? Are you looking at ways to improve your content, be more organised, more productive and more successful in 2022?

In 2021, I managed to have an incredibly good year for my blog for a number of reasons. First of all, I managed to hit my financial goal I had set myself for the year from working on a number of sponsored posts and campaigns with brands and PRs. Secondly, I got to work alongside a number of incredible and well known brands for a number of posts on my blog - some of these brands being Hotel Chocolat, The Poster Store, Parfum London, as well as submitting some recipe posts for the B&M website.

Thirdly, I used my time wisely throughout lockdown and being placed on furlough to really work on ways I can improve and expand all areas of my website. My lifestyle blog now has a total of 10 lifestyle based sub-sections, allowing me to share new articles on a wide range of topics, that can be relatable and engaging for a larger amount of people. Finally, time for some statistics. My lifestyle blogs audience is predominantly UK and US based, but it does currently have influence across many continents across the world, including Europe, Asia and the Americas - crazy right!?!

In 2021 alone, I reached a staggering 550,527 page views, reaching to 210,157 users - these numbers I grabbed from my Google Analytics - making 2021 probably one my of best years to date, and in 2022, I'm looking to top it! The question is.. How can I achieve more and be more productive and more successful? Listed below are some of the ways I'm going to be more productive this year, and hopefully achieve another successful year for my lifestyle blog, and hopefully some advice you can also take on board to grow your own blogs.

productivity quote

- Start Using A Daily Diary -
To be a more productive and organised blogger, you simply need to plan well. This year, I've started to use a daily diary in order for me to keep track of certain tasks I need to complete, emails/invoices I need to send, blog posts I need to write, and being able to plan my week ahead to use my time wisely. Most diaries will have a number of extra pages you can use for note taking and planning ideas - this will help you visually remember any blog posts you wish to write in the future, any brands you hope to work with, and you can also make a note of any goals or targets you wish to reach for the year ahead. You could also use a diary to keep track of your blog's growth over the year, and to track your progress of page views, followers etc.

- Create To-Do Lists -
It's simply impossible to keep up with everything you're thinking about and all of your ideas that are inside your head. The best thing you can do it to write it all down so you can have it all as a visual reminder in front of you. One of the most practical and important reasons that you should start to use a to-do list is that it will help you stay well organised. When you have written all your daily jobs and tasks in a simple list, they seem more achievable and manageable. When you can see a clear outline of what you've got to do for each day or each week, and are able to tick off once you've completed, it helps you stay focused, motivated and on-top of your work. Making to-do lists are an easy, stress-free and effective way of keeping up-to-date with certain tasks and things you need to do throughout your day. As a blogger, this could include things such as sending emails, taking photographs, writing up blog posts and creating invoices, to name a few.

blogging

- Update Your Media Kit Regularly -
For those who don't currently use a media kit, it can definitely be worth taking a look online to see what you need to include and browsing some media kit templates to give you some inspiration for your own. A media kit gives you the opportunity to showcase your blog and present yourself exactly as you want to be seen -  it is simply a digital-based, online portfolio that informs your potential partners, sponsors and clients everything they need to know. You are able to give a brief overview of your blog, about you as a person, the content you write about, and any other information you believe to be relevant - this could typically include recent blog statistics, demographics, social media platforms you use, services you offer with relevant fees and some of the previous brands you have collaborated with. All of these features can allow a brand to gain an in-depth overview of you, your website and what you have to offer in just a few clicks, so it's important to make sure you update this regularly and all information included is correct and up-to-date, for example - DA score, follower count, email address and fees for collaborations.

- Break Bigger Goals into Smaller Goals -
So, you may have set yourself some blog goals for the year ahead, and they may look slightly overwhelming to start with. Maybe you want to earn £10,000 for the year, you want to gain 5,000 new followers or you want to write 200 new blog posts for that year. If you look at them like this, it can be very stressful and cause a lot of anxiety for you, especially if you're working non-stop trying to make this happen. To make things look that little bit more manageable and achievable, why not break these big goals into smaller goals? Instead of looking at your full years overview of your blogging goals, it may be wiser to break these down into weekly or monthly targets - for example, if you are looking to make £10,000 from your blog in 2022, why not break this down to around £800 a month, 200 blog posts a year, it could be around 16 per month - looks much less scary!

emails

- Avoid Distractions -
On how many occasions do you go to sit down and begin writing a new blog post but manage to get distracted by your social media accounts, phone notifications etc. If you're running your blog or working from the comfort of your own home, there are endless distractions that surround you and your working space. Your mobile phone, TV, pets, children, emails from your favourite fashion or beauty brands - the list is simply endless. As a blogger, it's probably a useful tip of knowing how to try and avoid these distractions, as this will most probably allow you to achieve your goals and become more successful at a faster rate than you otherwise would. Here are a few examples of things you can implement to help you avoid distractions whilst blogging/working;
  • Set up a tidy, clutter free working environment
  • Use your diary and to-do lists to ensure you complete all tasks
  • Switch off your phone and log out of any social media websites
  • Work using time frames or set a timer to carry out certain tasks to help avoid distractions and increase your productivity levels
- Keep On Top Of Emails and Admin -
Finally, the dreaded emails and admin tasks that are always left until later or tomorrow. Get them done today! Managing to stay on top of your emails/admin jobs can be extremely overwhelming and time-consuming - especially as a blogger as you could be getting multiple emails through daily regarding things such as collaborations, payments and invoices. In order to keep on top of this, there are a number of things you can do. For example;
  • set aside some time each week to go through your all of your emails and respond to them
  • empty your junk folder and deleted emails regularly to avoid them piling up
  • group your emails in folders for easy access
  • update your admin files daily/weekly - e.g. spreadsheets for your blogging income, followers total and your weekly plan for your blog
  • make templates for specific emails you send as this can save you time - brand pitches, media kit emails, invoices etc
How successful was your blog in 2021? What other ways are you going to be more organised and productive this year?

AD| Just moved into a new home? Or are you looking to give your personal space a little refresh? Why not opt for some home fragrances.

If you're unfamiliar, home fragrances come in a number of forms; candles, wax melts, reed diffusers, room sprays and incense sticks, to name a few. Using fragrance throughout your home can really help to enhance your living spaces. Smell is probably one of our most useful and important senses and it can influence our mood depending on the situation. By choosing the right home scents will let you express and share your individuality with visitors to your home, as well as putting that finished stamp of ownership on to your home.

By using fragrances throughout your home, it can help create the perfect warm, welcoming atmosphere and might just be that finishing touch you require for making your house feel more like home. Using different scents in the rooms of your home can be very useful for determining the ambience you wish you evoke. For example, in your bedroom you may wish for a calming, relaxing scent like lavender, in your bathroom you may opt for a fresh, clean scent such as clean cotton or citrus, and in your living room/lounge you may go for something more warming like vanilla, amber or ginger. As well as creating a welcoming atmosphere, home fragrances also have the power to help reduce stress and anxiety, especially those infused with calming essential oils such as lavender.

As mentioned previously, home fragrances come in a wide variety. There are various item choices to be made when looking for your perfect product for your home. If you're staying indoors, candles and highly scented wax melts are a good option to go for if you are needing warmth, light and fragrance. Both these options require a little more time as they require melting and burning before you are able to notice the scent from them.

Room sprays are perfect for those looking for a quick fix. Using room sprays are extremely easy as you can give a quick spritz over the room, and you get instant results. It’s the perfect way to add fragrance to your home quickly and unlike using a soy wax melt/candle, which requires time to melt the wax and burn away to release the scent into your home.

Reed diffusers are probably my go-to option when it comes to home fragrance. Reed diffusers are A popular home fragrance products that produce a constant aroma to any room without using resources such as electricity or heat. They are generally more long-lasting, as a majority of reed diffusers can scent your home for up to 8 weeks. As well as this, diffusers can be a very effective way of scenting your home that requires very little effort - all you need to remember if to rotate your reeds every week or so to keep the scent filling your home.

Home fragrances come in a wide variety of fragrances to choose from - depending on your preferences. There is absolutely something out there for everyone. Most of the time, brands will produce fragrances to reflect seasonal times of the year, for example - winter berries, spices and citrus for Christmastime, coconut, fresh fruit and sweet scents for summer. Some of my favourite home fragrance scents include vanilla, orange, coconut, pine trees and lavender.

Memory and the sense of smell are linked and intertwined due to the anatomy of the brain. It's believed that certain scents can help you remember certain memories. Familiar scents can easily trigger specific memories that may have occurred years ago and instantly pull you back into remembering another time. In terms of home fragrance, you may have used scents in the past that could help you remember memories from the past such as your childhood home, Christmas times with your family, holidays, your wedding day and even purchasing your first home.

Finally, you will be able to find home fragrances in a number of high-street stores and supermarkets, as well as online for extremely affordable prices, making them available to everyone - especially those who have just moved into their new home, or those on a low income or tight budget. On the high-street, I usually pick up my home fragrance products from Primark. They offer such a variety of scents and home fragrance products to choose from, you'll be spoilt for choice. Online, littlemisstwiggietwinkles offers a wide variety of home fragrance products including wax melts, reed diffusers and seasonal products in a great selection of scents - I'd definitely be selecting the perfume and aftershave inspired scents for my home - especially Lady Million and Sauvage!

Do you currently use any home fragrances? What are your favourite scents to use in your home?

AD| In search of a New Year's resolution that you'll actually focus on and achieve? Look no further!

When it comes to New Year's resolutions, many people will struggle to keep up with their resolutions simply by being unrealistic or overambitious. In order to achieve your goals and targets for the year, you need to opt for changes that are manageable, maintainable and actually realistic, to help keep you on tack. Try to incorporate some of these simple New Year's resolution ideas into your daily routine for a healthier lifestyle in 2022.

healthy lifestyle

— Improve Your Diet for Weight Management -
At the beginning of the New Year, many people look at ways in which they can improve their overall health by gaining, losing or maintaining their weight, whilst managing a better relationship with the food/drink that they consume. After indulging throughout the festive period and the New Year, health and fitness becomes many people's main focus for the year ahead.

To help you get started, there are a number of useful health and fitness conversion tools that can be found on the Culinary Schools website, e.g., calories calculator, body fat and weight loss. The weight loss calculator is an extremely useful tool to use in order for you to estimate how much you will need to change your diet and exercise routine in order to kickstart and reach your weight loss goals. The tool is super easy to use, you simply input all your personal data, e.g., height, weight, age, activity level etc, and all your results are laid out for you to clearly see, and to easily help you understand what steps you need to take for weight loss.

— Get Better Quality Sleep -
Sleep plays such a vital role in your overall health, it's essential for maintaining your physical and mental health, so it's important to make it a priority by getting at least 7 hours per night. In order to achieve better quality sleep, there are a number of changes you can make to your daily routine to make this happen. For example, follow a regular bedtime/wake time schedule, invest in new pillows, a new mattress and duvets for a more comfortable sleep, less screen time before bed, and try to avoid caffeine/alcohol late at night. Also, you could try using a sleep support patch. These are designed to help you fall asleep quickly and more comfortably, allowing you to achieve better quality sleep, and feeling refreshed upon waking up.

outdoor yoga

— Become More Active -
Using the New Year to become more active and find a physical activity/workout routine that you can actually enjoy is not only beneficial for your physical health, but it can also do wonders at improving your mental health. Not everyone will enjoy going on long-distance runs or bike rides, as this may be too strenuous and exhausting, but there are a few simple ways you can become more active in your everyday routine. By spending more time outdoors, getting some much-needed exercise, as well as some fresh air, is a good way to relieve stress and improve mental health. A few good examples include getting in 10,000 steps a day, yoga sessions, at-home workouts, weight-lifting, or even just going out for daily walks will all help to boost your fitness levels.

— Cook More and Less Takeaway Food -
Those of you who lead a busy lifestyle, you might find it easier to order a takeaway or pick up some fast food on your way home from work/school – but this could be stopping you from achieving an improved diet and healthy lifestyle. Research has shown that those who frequently cook their own meals at home will typically eat more healthily and consume fewer calories than those who regularly indulge in take-out foods – but eating these types of foods in moderation could be exactly what you need to balance in your diet. A takeaway once to twice a month isn't going to hurt…right?!

Cooking more at home doesn't have to be difficult, especially if you aren't so confident in the kitchen. You're simply not going to become a Michelin chef overnight, so practice makes perfect. If learning to cook is one of your New Year's resolutions, it's best to start off with a few basic recipes that you can practice time and time again to help improve your cooking confidence. I've previously featured a number of super simple recipes that you can include in your weekly meal ideas, these include Chicken and Broccoli Pesto Pasta, Beef Lasagne, Fiery Coconut Prawn Curry and a quick and easy Spiced Butternut Squash Soup.

self care

— Make Time for Self Care -
If you're not making enough time for daily/weekly self-care, you're more likely to feel overwhelmed, stressed and unhappy. Practising self-care will not only make you feel more confident and more happy on the outside, but also on the inside. To help create a self-care routine that you can squeeze into your everyday life, try incorporating a few things that you enjoy or make you happy. These don't have to be anything too extravagant – maybe a nice relaxing bubble bath, a face mask, book yourself in for a massage, go for a walk in the park, or even take some time out of your schedule to make time for a new hobby or something you're passionate about.

What are your New Year's resolutions? What resolutions, goals and targets do you want to achieve in 2022?
